The field will consist of 12 of the best horses aged three years and up. Among them is Game on Dude, who raced in the event last year. He finished seventh in 2012, but expectations are much higher heading into this year’s event.
He has won his past six starts and is listed as an 8-5 favorite, per BreedersCup.com. Trainer Bob Baffert has every reason to be excited about this horse's chances of winning the big prize in Arcadia.
While Game on Dude is the horse to beat, he isn’t the only one to watch. Mucho Macho Man was withdrawn from the Woodward Stakes by his trainer Kathy Ritvo because of weather concerns in August, per ESPN.com. Since then, he has won the Awesome Again Stakes at Santa Anita and comes into this race at 5-1 odds. Legendary jockey Gary Stevens will be in the saddle for this top contender.
Belmont Stakes winner Palace Malice will attempt to add another prestigious title to his list of accomplishments this year. The Todd Pletcher-trained horse is listed at 10-1 odds. If Palace Malice can win the Breeders' Cup title, the horse will have earned $6 million in purse money from those two races alone.
Kentucky Derby-winning jockey Joel Rosario will ride William Mott’s Flat Out. The horse is listed at 12-1, but Mott has been high on the horse for a long time. Speaking to The New York Racing Association in Sept. 2012, he talked about the horse's ability to get good position.
Against a stacked field, Flat Out and others will need to be at their best to win. Weather shouldn't be a concern, as the forecast is pleasant.

Per Weather.com, the high will be 81 degrees, and the low will be 53, with zero chance of rain. That sounds like a great day. We’ll see which horse, trainer and jockey combination will have an even better day in the winner’s circle.
