USA vs. Australia Women's Soccer: Date, Time, Live Stream, TV Info and Preview

Tim DanielsOct 19, 2013

The United States women's national team is undefeated in 2013. While the top-ranked squad has been cruising right along, it should receive some good tests in the coming weeks. It's a stretch that begins with a match against Australia, which is ranked eighth by FIFA.

After the Americans face Australia, they will go up against New Zealand twice before a high-profile clash with No. 4 Brazil in the middle of November. It's a flurry of a finish in what's been an otherwise uneventful year for the dominant side.

Australia brings a roster stateside that should give a glimpse into the future. Aside from Lisa De Vanna and Kate Gill, two of the team's biggest attacking threats, only two other players are older than 25. A bright future should be ahead for the Matildas.

Here's a look at all the information for Sunday's clash, followed by a breakdown of the United States' recent run and a match prediction.

Top Storyline: Can the United States continue its run of terrific form?

The Americans have made a habit out of posting strong stretches of results, mostly because there are a limited number of opponents capable of giving them a serious challenge. But in recent friendlies, they have been displaying some remarkable form.

They have won each of their last five matches by a combined score off 22-2. It includes a 7-0 victory over Mexico in their last match, which featured a four-goal outburst by Sydney Leroux, who continues to shine with increased opportunities.

The United States' attack is the main reason the team has been virtually unstoppable throughout the year. With Leroux stepping up to take some of the pressure off Alex Morgan and Abby Wambach, slowing the offense down for an entire match is an uphill battle for any opponent.

That's especially true for Australia, which has a young back line. When the two teams faced off for a pair of games last fall, the Americans racked up eight goals. Progress should have been made since then, but likely not enough.

Prediction

The United States will want to build up some momentum heading into the Brazil match next month. Australia, which should develop into a more serious challenger in the coming years, can't quite match the Americans' talent level quite yet.

Expect the tremendous attacking trio to have another big game, thanks in part to strong play in the midfield, led by Megan Rapinoe. In the end, that will be more than enough for the U.S. to coast to another victory.
