Ascot Champions Day 2013 Results: Winner, Payouts and Order of Finish
This year's Qipco British Champions Day at Ascot was another blockbuster meet featuring a plethora of world-class races and horses to draw the punters in.
Officially the richest day in British racing, Champions Day is the blue-ribbon meet that stands as the climax to the British Champions Series. It includes the five of series' division finals: the Long Distance Cup, Sprint Stakes, Fillies and Mares Stakes, and Champions Stakes, along with the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes and Future Stars Apprentice Handicap races.
Champions Day 2013 is sure to live long in the memory for the trainers of Champion Stakes winner Farhh, who will now retire to stud after a difficult-but-successful career blighted by injuries yet sprinkled with brilliance.
Silvestre de Sousa was on top form aboard the horse, putting in arguably the ride of the day with a remarkably assured performance that lifted Farhh's scandal-ridden owners, Godolphin, into the headlines for all the right reasons. The stables are now British Flat racing champions for the ninth time in 17 years.
Elsewhere, however, it seemed the balance of power was beginning to shift towards a new and potentially dominant force in racing, with Olympic Glory, owned by the al-Thani family of Qatar, riding to victory in the Queen Elizabeth II stakes.
The race's pre-meet favourite, Dawn Approach, practically sank in the soft and heavy ground, and the conditions also claimed a number of other horses touted by the odds as prime contenders.
Gold Cup winner Estimate, who is owned by the Queen Elizabeth II herself, lost out in the most ironic of fashions to the Irish runner Royal Diamond in the Long Distance Cup as rider Johnny Murtagh willed the horse to victory. However, his enthusiastic efforts with the whip landed him with a seven-day ban that will cause him to miss the Breeders' Cup on Nov. 1 and 2.
The full results from the day can be found below, including details of the winners, payouts and finishing orders for each Qipco Champions Day 2013 race from Ascot.
