Report: Andros Townsend Signs New Deal with Tottenham Hotspur

Aaron BowerJun 1, 2018

Andros Townsend's dream week has continued, as his club Tottenham Hotspur have announced he has agreed to a new four-year contract with the London side:

"

The 22-year-old Academy graduate has made eight First Team appearances this season after returning from a successful loan spell picking up Premier League experience at QPR in the second half of last season, making 12 appearances and scoring two goals.

The winger's start to the season led to his recent international recognition, making his full England debut on Friday against Montenegro and marking the occasion with a crucial goal in the 4-1 victory, before winning a second cap on Tuesday against Poland.

Townsend starred for England with two sublime performances for the national side in the last week, including capping his debut against Montenegro with a superb goal.

He has appeared eight times for the first team this season, and looks set to play a part this weekend when Spurs head to Aston Villa on Sunday.

It looked at one time as if Townsend was destined to play his football away from Tottenham. He has had loan spells at the likes of Yeovil Town, Milton Keynes Dons and Leeds United as he fought to impress then-manager Harry Redknapp. Since the arrival of Andre Villas-Boas however, things have brightened up for the flying winger.

He reacted to the news shortly after Tottenham announced the deal, via his Twitter account:

As mentioned, he spent the second half of the campaign at QPR, but he could not prevent them being relegated from the Premier League.

Since then though, his Spurs career has gone from strength to strength, and he has impressed with his ability to beat a man at both domestic and international levels. He is now a firm part of England's plans for the immediate future, and looks set to continue his rich vein of form with Tottenham over the next four years.

Spurs fan? Are you pleased with the deal for Townsend? How big a part could he play in Tottenham's chances for success? Leave your comments below.
