Funniest Chelsea Chants

Garry HayesOct 15, 2013

As cliche as it may sound, come matchday, football stadia would be significantly worse off without the thousands of supporters who passionately follow their teams every week.

Cheering every goal or booing the pantomime villains, even—the atmosphere created by supporters across the globe brings a unique appeal to football matches.

The songs sang by fans form the fabric of which they can relate, inspiring their team to victory or simply intimidating the opposition.

There's always room for humor on the terraces, too, and Chelsea fans are no different, with their own comic takes on songs throughout the years that celebrate being a supporter of the West London club.

Bleacher Report brings you some of the funniest chants heard that have been heard at Stamford Bridge.

'Debt Free, Wherever You May Be'

1 of 6

Since Roman Abramovich purchased Chelsea in 2003, the Russian has pumped million into the club to help them become the most successful English team in the past decade.

That hasn't stopped opposition fans from looking to undermine the Blues and their new-found wealth, however, citing an apparent lack of history ore-2003 among their many insults.

Chelsea fans have had to develop many forms of retort as a result, with this chant—an alternate version of the club's "Famous CFC" song—being among the more humorous:

"

Debt free, wherever you may be,

We’re gonna buy everyone we see,

We don’t give a f**k about the transfer fee,

'Cos we are the wealthy CFC

"

'John Obi Mikel, He Scores When He Wants'

John Obi Mikel fores home for Chelsea against Fulham.

Chelsea's John Obi Mikel had waited 261 games for a goal in his club's colors and he finally got the reward for his patience, firing home his first-ever Premier League goal against Fulham this season.

It was a vital finish, too, helping the Blues to a 2-0 victory at Stamford Bridge after Oscar had put Jose Mourinho's team in front earlier in the second half.

Judging by Mikel's reaction, he was rightly overjoyed as he celebrated with his teammates, but so too were Chelsea fans, with the below chant soon echoing around Stamford Bridge as they added a touch of humor to the Nigerian's celebrations

"

He scores when he wants,

He scores when he wants,

John Obi Mikel, he scores when he wants.

'Fernando Torres, Chelsea's No. 9'

3 of 6

Liverpool fans may not appreciate the sentiment when it comes to Chelsea supporters dedicating some air time to Fernando Torres, yet the Stamford Bridge faithful revel in not only reminding the Reds of how they poached their star striker, but throw some regional stereotypes into the mix for good measure:

"

He is a blue, he was a red, Torres, Torres,

He left the Kop End for The Shed, Torres, Torres,

He used to go out on the rob, now he's got a proper job,

Fernando Torres, Chelsea's No. 9.

Abramovich and Delia

4 of 6

It may be over eight years since Delia Smith infamously endeavored to rally Norwich City fans at half time during a 3-2 defeat to Manchester City in February 2005, but opposition fans still like to remind followers of the Canaries about the former club director's drunken rant (in the video above).

Chelsea fans are no different, singing the following whenever the two teams meet:

"

We've got Abramovich,

You've got a drunken b*tch

"

We're not sure that TV chef Delia deserves such tirades, but it makes football fans laugh nonetheless.

'Ashley Cole, He Sh*gs Who He Wants'

5 of 6

When Ashley Cole was outed by The Sun newspaper (access via a paywall) for having a one-night stand with hairdresser Aimee Walton in January 2008, it created the inevitable media storm.

Cole's character came in for some tough criticism from the media given he was married to pop star Cheryl Cole at the time.

Chelsea fans were unperturbed, however, and frequently supported the left-back by encouraging his extra-matiral indiscretions:

"

He sh*gs who he wants,

He sh*gs who he wants,

Ashley Cole, he sh*gs who he wants.

"Running Around Tottenham with Our European Cup"

6 of 6

Football fans of any club enjoy rubbing a rival's nose in their success.

Chelsea have been doing that for a long while with Tottenham Hotspur, but things have gone up a notch since the Blues won the Champions League in 2012, robbing Spurs a place in the competition the following season as a result.

Since that time, the following has been heard at Stamford Bridge and White Hart Lane, whenever the club's have met:

"

We'll be running around Tottenham with our European Cup,
We'll be running around Tottenham with our European Cup,
We'll be running around Tottenham,
Running around Tottenham,
Running around Tottenham with our European Cup,

Singing we've got a trophy, haven't you?
