Is Greivis Vasquez Gone for Good?
Greivis Vasquez is going to work out for the Washington Wizards today, and while he is an interesting prospect for the Wizards and several other teams throughout the league, the General has given no indication whether he will remain in the draft or return to the Maryland Terrapins for his senior year.
It’s a question of ego for Vasquez, and we know that he has plenty of it. Is he arrogant enough to know that he will go late first-round, high second round, and create a career for himself like another point guard in the region, or is he arrogant enough to believe that a return to College Park will drastically improve his draft positioning in 2010?
You got it. Either way, he’s an arrogant S.O.B.
I’ve said it before, this is Terence Morris all over again, with an opportunity for success to prevail over mediocrity.
The only reason to return to College Park is for a legitimate run at a national championship, and while the Terps may very well win the ACC, they won’t be in a position to beat the Calipari-led Kentucky juggernaut, or any team coming out of the Big East.
There’s nothing left to prove to Terp Nation, nothing left for Gary Williams to teach, and nothing more to enhance your legacy with program. Nothing that helps your professional aspirations, anyway. The remaining question is if the talent and arrogance matchup well with an opportunity in the NBA.
