Fantasy Football Week 6: Breaking Down Best RB Plays This Weekend

Jeremy FuchsOct 12, 2013

Winning your fantasy league is all about making smart choices at one of the most important positions—running back. Picking the right player can make or break your season.

In Week 6, there are a number of running backs who could have a big game. We'll cut through the fog and break down the best running back plays this weekend.

The Broncos are going to absolutely dominate the Jacksonville Jaguars. That much is clear. The Jags give up 32.6 points per game while the Broncos average a ridiculous 46 points per game. They've scored 110 in the last two weeks alone.

That means that this game should be over after the first 10 minutes. The Broncos are going to put up big points in the first half, and then they'll rest their key players to avoid injury and to be fair to the Jags.

The Broncos will probably stick to the run game in the second half. The Jags have the worst run defense in the league, giving up an average of 160.6 yards per game.

All of this points to a big game for Knowshon Moreno. Lost in Peyton Manning's amazing season is the fact that Moreno is experiencing a bit of a resurgence. He's averaging 5.1 yards per carry and has four touchdowns.

With the Broncos probably getting out to a big lead, they'll rely on the run to drain the clock. Moreno will get a number of carries and put up some big numbers.

Giovani Bernard, Cincinnati Bengals

Giovani Bernard is beginning to take hold of the starting running back gig.

Since Week 3, Bernard has 39 more carries than BenJarvus Green-Ellis and has averaged 50 yards per week. He is also a weapon in the air, where he averages nearly 26 yards per game.

His skill set matches up nicely against the Buffalo Bills defense. According to Matthew Berry of ESPN, Bernard averages 5.4 yards per carry outside the tackles. The Bills allow five yards per carry on rushes outside the tackles.

The Bills give up 116 yards on the ground per game, which is 22nd in the league. They gave up 72 yards to Willis McGahee last week against the Cleveland Browns. Bernard is better than McGahee.

Look for the impressive rookie to have a big game as the Bengals roll.

Bilal Powell, New York Jets

The Jets are seemingly for real, and there's no bigger beneficiary than Powell.

The Jets are slowly taking the reins off of Geno Smith, but until they do, the run game is going to be featured heavily. Last week, Powell rushed for 38 yards on 12 carries. That doesn't seem like much, but remember, he is sharing carries with Chris Ivory.

Why start someone in a platoon? Because the Pittsburgh Steelers' run defense is awful. They give up an average of 122.8 yards per game, which is ranked 25th in the league. They gave up 140 yards and two touchdowns to Adrian Peterson in their last game.

Powell isn't Peterson, but he's a good back. He had triple the carries that Ivory did last week, so he will get the rock enough to make an impact.

The Steelers are not a good team, and their defense is atrocious. The Jets should jump out to a big lead early. That will lead them to rely on the run game to drain the clock. The Steelers will struggle this week to stay in this game, and Powell should have the chance to go off.
