The NXT Report for October 9, 2013

Jun 8, 2018

After a one week hiatus, the NXT Report returns!

On last week's show, NXT champion Bo Dallas held the first-ever Bo Dallas Invitational. He had promised anyone that could beat him a shot at his title, but announced that top contender Sami Zayn was ineligible to enter the invitational.

Zayn outsmarted Dallas, competing under a mask and scoring a win over the champion. He will receive his opportunity at NXT gold on the October 16 episode.

Speaking of the Bo Dallas Invitational, Antonio Cesaro and Leo Kruger came to blows during the gauntlet-style match when neither man could decide who would be next to test Dallas. Instead, they were both dumped over the top rope by the champion and neither man had the opportunity to earn the title shot.

This week, they meet in one-on-one competition.

Also on last week's show, The Ascension won the NXT tag team titles from Corey Graves and Adrian Neville, while Emma teamed with Santino to defeat Summer Rae and Fandango in mixed tag team action.

With a new number one contender and new tag champions, what will NXT have in store for fans this week?

Rob Van Dam, that's what!

What was RVD up to on this week's show? Find out with this week's NXT Report.

Location

Full Sail University

Broadcast Team

Tom Phillips, Alex Riley and Renee Young

Match Results

Rob Van Dam def. Aiden English

Scott Dawson & Alexander Rusev def. Enzo Amore & Colin Cassady

Mojo Rawley def. Danny Burch

Charlotte def. Santana Garrett

Antonio Cesaro def. Leo Kruger

The fight between Antonio Cesaro and Leo Kruger that ended their chance at earning a NXT Championship match during last week's Bo Dallas Invitational poured over into this week's show as they did battle in the night's opening contest.

In a hard-hitting contest, Cesaro delivered a number of sensational uppercuts to Kruger, who withstood the offense of the former WWE United States champion for the most part but ultimately fell victim to the Neturalizer and the three count.

Elsewhere on the card, Rob Van Dam put an end to NXT's resident artiste Aiden English's winning ways, second-generation Diva Charlotte fended off the determined Santana Garrett, Mojo Rawley picked up an impressive win in his first match and Scott Dawson and Alexander Rusev gained a measure of revenge on Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady.

Angle Advancement

Un-BO-lieveable

Renee Young caught up with number one contender Sami Zayn and asked him about his upcoming title match against Bo Dallas. Zayn discussed the opportunity that awaits but, before he could talk too long, Dallas interrupted.

He attempted to get out of his scheduled title defense by offering to be Zayn's partner so they could challenge for the NXT Tag Team Championship as friends.

Zayn accepted the proposal...but only after he takes the NXT title from Dallas.

The number one contender stepped out of the frame and Dallas finished with "un-BO-lieveable."

The match between the two has had exceptional build and I expect the crowd to be extremely hot when Zayn and Dallas step into the squared circle on next week's show.

Summer Rae and Sasha Banks are BFFs...Beautiful Fierce Females

Following Charlotte's win over independent star Santana Garrett, Summer Rae and Sasha Banks took to the ring to address the NXT fans. Summer referred to herself as "the First Lady of NXT," while calling Banks "the boss."

She said that, with Paige being out following an attack at the hands of Banks, there is no one that can stop them from dominating NXT and WWE.

This, of course, brought out Paige. She attacked her bitter rivals but fell victim to a two-on-one beat down. The assault would continue until Emma hit the ring and chased NXT's resident mean girls away.

Backstage, Summer and Sasha issued a challenge to Emma and Paige for a match on next week's show. Later in the evening, Tony Dawson caught up with Paige and Emma, who accepted the challenge.

The feud has been going on for quite some time now and has demonstrated exactly how entertaining a female-driven angle can be. Summer Rae is excellent in her role as the lead baddie, while Sasha Banks is being given television time to establish herself and her character.

Paige and Emma are the most popular female performers in NXT and among the best workers so programming them against Summer and Sasha should result in a solid in-ring product.

The Legionnaires are anything but S-A-W-F-T

In the continuation of a tag team rivalry that has lasted several weeks, Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady took on Sylvester Lefort's Legionnaires, Scott Dawson and Alexander Rusev.

Two weeks ago, Amore and Cassady defeated Dawson and Rusev in the Tag Team Turmoil match, ending any shot they had at becoming number one contenders for the tag titles.

This week, Rusev and Dawson would get a measure of revenge when Rusev locked Amore in the Camel Clutch and scored the submission win.

After the bout, he locked Cassady in the same hold, establishing himself as one of the most dominant stars in NXT.

The rivalry between these two teams has been interesting in that they have consistently traded wins with neither duo looking any more impressive than the other. Whether the decisive finish to the match this week will prove the end of the program remains to be seen, but Rusev is as impressive a big man as there has been in quite some time.

And Enzo is hilarious and a surefire star for World Wrestling Entertainment.

Match of the Week: Antonio Cesaro vs. Leo Kruger

An old-school wrestling match that was as physical and hard-hitting as any in recent NXT history saw Cesaro score an impressive win over one of NXT's standout performers.

It was one of Cesaro's finest performances as he showed an intensity that seems to be missing from his work on Raw and SmackDown.

The match was one that veterans of Jim Crockett Promotions and the National Wrestling Alliance could be proud of.

Star of the Week: Antonio Cesaro

The Swiss Superstar stood head and shoulders above the developmental talent this week, delivering a fine performance and reasserting himself as one of sports-entertainment's most talented in-ring workers.

Analysis

This week's NXT built the top angles in the brand through vignettes and interviews, while allowing a different crop of stars to shine in the squared circle.

Mojo Rawley's win may have come in a squash match but there is clearly something in the physically-gifted rookie that screams "star."

Two big matches have been set up for next week's show, including the long-awaited NXT title match between Bo Dallas and Sami Zayn, as well as the Divas tag match between the team of Paige and Emma and Summer Rae and Sasha Banks.

With some of the more popular stars in NXT appearing on next week's show, expect a very vocal crowd and what should amount to a very hot show.
