Pirates' Starling Marte Makes Amazing Diving Catch to Rob Matt Carpenter

Josh SchochJun 8, 2018

Starling Marte gave Pittsburgh Pirates fans something to cheer about with an incredible diving catch in Game 5 of the NLDS.

Facing the St. Louis Cardinals in a do-or-die situation, the Pirates were attempting to defeat NL Cy Young contender Adam Wainwright, and Marte helped his team with his glove.

Matt Carpenter stepped to the plate in the bottom of the third inning with one out and nobody on. He sent a shot the opposite way to shallow left field, but Marte got a great jump on the ball and fully extended to make a diving catch.

Marte's catch came at an important point in the game, and Pirates fans were very appreciative.

"

If that catch by Marte is the only highlight made by the Pirates, I would be ok with that.

The most surprising part about Marte's catch might not have even been the play itself. The fact that St. Louis fans applauded him for the grab in a decisive Game 5 was indicative of a fanbase that respects the game.

"

Marte makes bold diving catch and always appreciative St. Louis fans applaud him. Even in Game 5. Pretty cool.

"

Hey Pirate fans, you hear how the Cards fans cheered for Marte when he made that catch? You booed Wacha when he almost no hit you.

Truly unbelievable.
