The Shakedown: Best NFL Coaching Mustache (Contestant No. 4)

Welcome back to the Shakedown!

Our latest look at the “Best NFL Coaching Mustache” has reached its final week. Thus far we’ve run through Titans coach Jeff Fisher, former NFL head coach and current Pitt head man Dave Wannstedt, and the always incoherent Mike Ditka (have you ever noticed the man never truly finishes a sentence?).

So where do we go from here? Some of you suggested we quit after Ditka, but there’s simply too much mustache for that. Brad Childress, Rick Venturi, Romeo Crennell, Denny Green, Bill Cowher, Art Shell, Tony Dungy, Herman Edwards, and Estelle Getty? Hello!

We are going to take you down a very slippery slope to a place that many on the PGA Tour or in the Green Bay Packers, Philadelphia Eagles, and Seattle Seahawks organizations have refused to go for many years.

Indeed, for nearly two decades the American Mustache Institute has suggested that NFL coaches Mike Holmgren and Andy Reid, as well as extra large golfer Craig Stadler, are actually the same person.

For the purposes of the “Monthly Mustache Shakedown” we’ll confine our speculation to Holmgren and Reid. And the fact remains they are never seen in the same place — ever. Even when Reid was an assistant on Holmgren’s Packers, you never saw them on the sidelines together. Reid was conveniently “in the booth” calling plays, when of course, we know that Holmgren has always called his own plays.

Despite this mystery, we offer them up, as one, as our final Shakedown contestant for the “Best NFL Coaching Mustache”.
