Why the Redskins can cover the spread

Washington comes into this one after a bye week, and that’s the best thing that could’ve happened to this team after scoring its first win of the season two weeks ago with a 24-14 victory at Oakland. Add in the rivalry aspect, and it’s easy to see why the Redskins will be fired up for this one.

They are 11-2 against the spread in 13 recent meetings with the Cowboys and 6-0 ATS the past six seasons in Dallas. They are also 6-1 ATS in their past seven games against division foes.

Why the Cowboys can cover the spread

Dallas gave everyone something to ponder last week, nearly pulling off the upset no one thought was possible. But a 51-48 loss to Denver revealed just how good the Cowboys offense can be.

Now they host one of the worst defenses in the league in a game where, again, the rivalry intangible must be taken into account. They covered twice in a row as home chalk after a long losing skid in that role. However, they have been terrible in division games (1-7 ATS in eight at home against NFC East teams).

Smart Pick

Dallas has been a covering machine this season, as it boasts a 4-1 mark against the spread. And after seeing how the Cowboys moved the ball so well last week, and stayed with the Broncos with such ease, it’s hard to ignore a low number like this with the 'Pokes back in their own stadium. Regardless of what the trends indicate.

Trends

Redskins 11-2 ATS past 13 games vs. Dallas.

Cowboys 0-6 ATS past six home games vs Washington.

Cowboys won two in a row as home chalk after losing eight straight.
