Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Alshon Jeffery, Chicago Bears
Chicago Bears wideout Alshon Jeffery has been a tough factor to analyze in fantasy, but there are no questions about his value after Week 5.
Jeffery finished atop the wide receiver rankings after the afternoon slate of games, with 10 receptions for an unbelievable 218 yards and a touchdown—albeit in a losing effort during which his team only scored 18 points.
This came on the heels of a breakout Week 4, when he notched a then-career-best 107 yards and got into the end zone for the first time this season.
In Week 6, Jeffery and the Bears will face the 0-5 New York Giants, who are making stars of every team they face.
Fantasy GMs were understandably worried about how much of an impact Jeffery would have in 2013 after three weeks, as he combined for 13 total fantasy points in ESPN leagues during that span.
But after the past two performances and with the hapless Giants next up, things are looking optimistic for Jeffery moving forward.
Justin Blackmon, Jacksonville Jaguars
It's not nearly as big of a sample size as that of other receivers in the league, but Blackmon started his 2013 campaign with flair on Sunday.
After being suspended for the first four games of the season, Blackmon came back at a perfect time for the Jags, as Cecil Shorts was leading a one-man show at wide receiver in an otherwise lethargic offense.
Blackmon flexed his big-play muscle in his 2013 debut against the Rams, catching five balls for 137 yards, including a 67-yard touchdown in the first quarter that gave his Jaguars the lead.
It ended up being in a losing effort, which will typically be the case moving forward—especially as Jacksonville faces Denver in Week 6.
Despite the Broncos' 51-48 victory over Dallas on Sunday, though, they showed major issues in the secondary, as Tony Romo threw for more than 500 yards and five touchdowns. Dez Bryant had a huge day with 141 yards and two scores.
The Jaguars won't have nearly the same amount of success offensively. They may not even score a touchdown.
However, there's no doubt that Denver has major issues in pass defense, and that will translate to at least a couple of splash plays from Blackmon.
Josh Gordon, Cleveland Browns
After missing the season's first two games, Josh Gordon immediately emerged as a consistent, big-play guy in the passing game for Cleveland. It's no coincidence that the Browns started winning around that same time.
Gordon had another productive day on Thursday Night Football against Buffalo, catching four passes for 86 yards and a touchdown. Clicking with Brandon Weeden was a positive sight for fantasy owners in the wake of Brian Hoyer's ACL tear.
Cleveland will face another team with a questionable secondary in Week 6 when it hosts the Detroit Lions, who ranked 22nd in pass defense after four games.
Assuming Weeden is able to turn around a slow start to his season and keep the Browns' newfound offense clicking, Gordon should have another big day.
