Analyzing Sergio Aguero's Performance vs. Everton

Patrick ClarkeJun 8, 2018

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero clearly woke up on the right side of the bed on Saturday morning, playing a superb all-around match against Everton at the Etihad Stadium.

He scored once, was only denied a second by the post and powered the Citizens to a much-needed 3-1 victory, per Manchester City on Twitter:

The 25-year-old Argentine supplied the dagger for City in the waning moments of the first half, putting his side ahead with a 45th-minute strike that made it 2-1 for City heading into the dressing room at half-time.

Aguero, who applied pressure to the Toffees' defence throughout Saturday's match, drilled the final nail in Everton's coffin in the 69th minute, firing a penalty past Tim Howard that came back off the post but ended up in the net after coming off the helpless goalkeeper's back. That gave City a 3-1 advantage that they wouldn't relinquish.

As BBC Sport on Twitter points out, it's typically good news for City when Aguero is scoring goals:

The victory is obviously great news for Manuel Pellegrini and the Citizens who had been coming off consecutive losses to Aston Villa and Bayern Munich.

But Aguero's performance in the victory has to be even more encouraging, especially considering he was coming off a lacklustre effort against Bayern in the Champions League earlier this week.

Aguero managed just one shot in that 3-1 loss and was subbed in the 69th minute.

With back-to-back dominant Premier League outings now under his belt, including a two-goal performance in City's rout of Manchester United in the derby in September, Aguero, Pellegrini and City fans everywhere can approach the club's next four matches away from the Etihad with confidence.
