Dallas Latos, wife of Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Mat Latos, reportedly had a rough night at PNC Park on Tuesday. And not because her husband's team is out of the MLB playoffs after losing 6-2 to the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Mrs. Latos took to Twitter to claim that she was attacked by a Pirates fan over the course of the 2013 National League Wild Card Game at PNC Park, posting that she was punched in the head "at least three times" and that she "spent most of the game talking to police."
UPDATE: Wednesday, Oct. 2, at 12:25 p.m. ET
From KDKA-TV in Pittsburgh:
Following the press conference, Latos returned to Twitter to dispute the account given by the police:
---End of update---
Here are a few of the highlights from her account:
If found to be true, Latos' claims fall in line with a disturbing trend at MLB ballparks over the past few years. A Los Angeles Dodgers fan was fatally stabbed recently after a game in San Francisco.
In 2011, Giants fan Bryan Stow was attacked by Dodgers fans after a game at Dodger Stadium and spent months in a medically induced coma. Stow was able to attend San Francisco's season finale on Sunday, nearly two years after the incident occurred.
Until more details in the alleged attack come to light, all we have to work with is Latos' testimony. According to her, the police report taken down during the game will do just that:
Latos also tweeted that she expected a YouTube video of the incident to be posted fairly soon.
Fortunately, no reports of injury (or worse) are coming out of Pittsburgh at this time.
