Seattle Seahawks vs. Indianapolis Colts: Spread Analysis and Pick Prediction

OddsShark.comOct 1, 2013

Some teams do not take kindly to being a home underdog and the Indianapolis Colts (3-1) are one of those teams. They host the Seattle Seahawks (4-0) in Week 5 and opened as small home underdogs, a role where they have won and covered six straight games.

Point spread: Seahawks opened as 3.5-point favorites; the total was 43. (Line updates and Matchup report)

Computer Prediction: 32.4-30.5 Seahawks

Why the Seahawks can cover the spread

Seattle can do just about anything right now. They can gut out tough wins, like on opening weekend against Carolina; or they can blow you out, like they did to San Francisco and Jacksonville; or they can come from behind, like last week in Houston.

The Seahawks are also 4-0 ATS, and have covered the spread in their last six road games. They are 5-0 ATS in their past five road games.

Why the Colts can cover the spread

Indy is 14-6 SU and 13-7 ATS in a season-plus with Andrew Luck at quarterback. But he isn't doing it alone. The Colts are averaging 150 YPG on the ground, and the defense has allowed less than 13 PPG. And they haven't even unleashed newly acquired RB Trent Richardson yet.

The Colts are 6-0 ATS as a home underdog and riding a 10-2 SU (9-3 ATS) run in home games overall.

Smart Pick

The OddsShark computer is predicting a 32-31 Seattle victory, which would give Indy the cover as home dogs. But the Seahawks are very dangerous at the moment. Elusive QB Russell Wilson makes all the plays he needs to, that Seattle defense might be the most intimidating in the league and they don't seem to care who or where or when they play.

Give the points and take the Seahawks.

Trends:

Seahawks 5-0 ATS past 5 road games

Colts 10-2 SU, 9-3 ATS past 12 home games

Colts won and covered 6 straight as home underdog
