Tigers-Twins: Miguel Cabrera's Blast Gives Detroit Another Win

Timothy CousinoApr 15, 2008

Home runs proved to be too much for the Minnesota Twins as the Detroit Tigers went deep four times to get another hard fought,come-from-behind victory, their second straight at Comerica Park on Tuesday night.

It was Jackie Robinson Day as a few players from both teams donned jerseys with the number fourty -two to honor the breaking of the color barrier sixty one years ago.

Carlos Gomez got things started for the Twins when he doubled, stole third, and scored on a fielders choice off the bat of Joe Mauer in the first inning. 1-0 Twins.

Gary Sheffield then connected for his first homer of 2008 to tie the game at one in the Tiger's half of the first inning.

In the third inning Twins' catcher Joe Mauer singled in a run.  2-1 Twins.

A two-run home run for Twins' first baseman Justin Morneau brought the score to 4-1 Minnesota in the sixth.

Solo homers by Magglio Ordonez and Carlos Guillen got the Tigers within one run, making it  4-3 in the favor of the  Twins going into the bottom of the eighth inning.
A walk and an error enabled Tigers' second baseman Placido Polanco to reach third before he was driven in on a clutch double off the bat of Magglio Ordonez to tie the game at 4.

That set the table for a dramatic two-run home run from Miguel Cabrera, giving the Tigers a 6-4 lead going into the ninth.

The Twins managed a run when former Tiger Craig Monroe singled in Delmon Young to bring about the score to 6-5 Detroit.
Todd Jones closed it out in his usual heart attack fashion for the Tiger victory.

Tigers' starting pitcher Nate Robertson struck out four, walked one, and gave up four runs in his no-decision appearance through 6 and 1/3 innings.
He was relieved by Aquilino Lopez because of shoulder tightness.

Clay Rapada got his first win after he relieved Lopez in the seventh.

Todd Jones roller-coasted his way to his third save of 2008 in as many chances.

This marks the second win at home for the Tigers , as their bats are beginning to heat up of late.
Their record is at 4 and 10 on the season, not exactly anything to scream at yet, but I can see them starting to improve.
The Tigers now head to Cleveland for a two-game set with the Indians.
