Joe's 411: B/R Pro-Wrestling News

Joe Burgett May 19, 2009

Welcome to another installment of Joe's 411: B/R Pro-Wrestling News. It is THE place to see wrestling news on the Internet today. And since I do not like to keep people waiting, here we go.

Kurt Angle and Dancing with the Stars?

Jeremy Borash wrote on his Twitter that NBC's "Dancing with the Stars" has contacted Angle about being on the show next season.

Angle's TNA contract will be up by the time Angle would be able to do it, so TNA would have to renew his contract if they are going to get anything out of him being there. If he leaves and goes to the WWE or something else, then TNA will get nothing.

And they need as much publicity as possible, if you ask me. So, they should really push him to do it. This would also benefit Angle too, because historically people who have been on the show and did pretty well have had a career boost.

Take Stacy Keibler for instance; she was a WWE Diva. She made it to the finals of the show and was considered to be the best there by many. She didn't win, but she kind of did in the end.

She left the WWE soon after and did a lot of acting, and did many stints with E!. So her life turned around for the good, and DWS pretty much helped her do that,

Many who have done it say it is a good idea because you get yourself out there more to the public. Many outside the wrestling world are not too familiar with Kurt Angle.

He has not done a lot of acting, so with him being on one of the No. 1 shows at the time it is on would be good for him.

So whether he is in TNA or not at the time, I feel he should accept it. It may seem dumb in many people's eyes, and that it is understandable. But it is about getting out there, and getting noticed. And Angle could do that here.

New WWE PPV

The WWE is planning on doing an all-submission PPV soon. They do not have a name for it yet, so they have sent out a survey to see what fans would want to name it. Here are the choices

  1. WWE Breaking Point
  2. WWE Submission Sunday
  3. WWE Submit & Quit
  4. WWE Total Submission

I am personally behind the WWE Breaking Point name personally. It just sounds good and is pretty marketable compare to the others. Like, "Will the WWE stars reach their breaking point?" Could be a good tag line for it.

Who knows what they will go with, but that is my vote.

Ric Flair's WWE status

As we all saw last night, WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair made his way back to WWE RAW. We saw him do the normal Flair tricks and it was a fun night to me personally.

Word now is that he will be on the next few shows. We all heard he would be there next week to call out Randy Orton. But he could make his way back to RAW for a long period of time.

Vince feels with both Triple H and Shawn Michaels being out that they lost a little bit of ratings. And historically Flair= ratings, so they feel having him there would be good until Triple H and/or Shawn Michaels comes back.

Triple H was set to come back before the Extreme Rules PPV, so he could be back in 2 weeks at the latest. We may see him next week even.

Since Batista is already slated to take on Orton for the WWE Title then, Triple H would not be in a match most likely. He could take on Rhodes or DiBiase, or maybe both though.

There is no word however on what he will be doing. I would assume though that he won't have anything for the PPV.

But it is not certain on the exact week Triple H will be back, but as I mentioned it is supposed to be before Extreme Rules.

But as of now, Flair is set to be back for a little while. So we know he will be on RAW.

WWE RAW issues

As many sports fans know, the Denver Nuggets made the Play-offs. Not only that, but they made the Conference Finals.

The problem is, that they will take on the Los Angles Lakers next Monday in the Pepsi Center, the same night WWE RAW is slated to be there.

This was planned a while in advance, as Vince McMahon and the WWE try avoid issues like these. They planned it on Aug. 15, 2008. So the Nuggets have had plenty of notice.

There was word of them moving to the Denver Coliseum because nothing is scheduled for them on that time and date. However, word is that it does not have the room to hold all the fans that bought tickets and it looks horrible on TV.

So some would be upset they were not able to get in, so to keep things okay with fans, I say we let it be cancelled. Then the next time they come to the Pepsi Center you let the fans who bought tickets before get in with the tickets they bought before.

It has been years since a RAW has been cancelled. The last time was when Chris Benoit passed away and the WWE did a tribute show for him.

The WWE would have taped RAW for next week last night, but word is that they found out to late to plan two shows for that night.

So, I see the show being cancelled because of all of this.

And it seems fair, because the Pepsi Center is home to the Nuggets. They have not been able to reach the Finals for a long time either.

So you don't want to ruin that by having them play in LA another night when they could have had their home crowd in Denver.

So you can't make them go, also the backlash towards the WWE would be terrible. And they do not want that, of course.

Now, the WWE has moved RAW to Thursday before. Which could work for them.

There is not a game for the Nuggets on that day. So I would assume that they would do that rather than cancel.

They have plenty of time to promote it, so it should be ok. Other than that, it would have to be cancelled.

McMahon is milking the whole thing though, as he was interviewed by ESPN's Jonathan Coachman. He is said to be a Laker fan, of course. And held up a Laker Jersey you see in the pic above. Vince jokingly claimed they would do something in the parking lot if they had to.

Vince McMahon was quoted in saying this in the interview:

"Even though the Denver Nuggets had a strong team this year and were projected to make the playoffs, obviously Nuggets and Pepsi Center owner Stan Kroenke did not have enough faith in his own team to hold the May 25 date for a potential playoff game."

Which makes sense. I mean you would think ownership would have had faith. However, even though I do not want WWE to get any backlash from having the Nuggets take a game off. I do think that since WWE had the arena booked first it is the fair thing to let them have the arena Monday.

But, you never know what will happen. The NBA has cancelled games before, I mean it is not like anything else is happening Tuesday there or Wednesday or Thursday. So why not give it to the WWE Monday?

I mentioned what the WWE could do to get around it by going to Thursday, but The Nuggets and Steve Kroenke could help the cause too.

There is not many games left for the NBA anyway, it is not like they have to play back-to-back nights like they do during the regular reason or anything.

Tommy Dreamer's retirement

This may mean nothing, or it may mean something. ECW Superstar Tommy Dreamer is set to appear with the WWE in August at house shows.

As many know, his contract ends next month. So with that said, this is something the WWE would be aware of if they knew he was leaving.

He is set for a few August shows, so obviously Dreamer is going to have his contract renewed.

Word is that he could either hit the announce table or be the new ECW GM. He has mentioned he doesn't know if he can wrestle for too much longer, so the GM or announce table role would be perfect for him.

He can talk on the mic just fine, and he could take a few bumps every now and then. But he can't be an active wrestler too much longer, both he and the WWE know that.

So I personally see the GM role for him, as he would be perfect for the job. Also the WWE is unhappy with Tiffany right now as GM. So it looks even more likely he would go there.

Undertaker's return

The WWE really wants The Undertaker to come back soon. They feel he would have enough rest to make it back to have a build up to Summerslam.

Taker has not yet had surgery on his knee(s), so they feel if he hold off instead of having surgery that he can do something then, and leave afterwards for the sugery.

They want to keep Jeff Hardy around through the Summer then he can leave when Taker gets back. When Taker and Hardy both leave they feel they would have built up a few others to take their place.

There is word that Christian would somehow go to SmackDown to aid the faces on the show, considering two major ones would be gone.

They have CM Punk and John Morrison as their top faces along with Rey Mysterio. But, they feel if they get Christian in that he could help out more than Mysterio could.

It is also why Punk has been going over on Edge and others and why Morrison has been winning a lot lately. They WWE feels that if they keep having them win that they will build a very loyal fan base.

Also we could see Punk cash in his MITB briefcase very soon too. So I could see that happening within the next month or two. Which would take the place of Taker and then Morrison could take Hardy's place.

I feel we may see a face turn for Edge if they run out of ideas, only because they have a rising heel in Dolph Ziggler, they still have a good one in Chris Jericho, and Shelton Benjamin is still there too.

So Edge, although a good heel, may turn face if the WWE gets desperate for more faces.

Small notes:

The WWE is changing the name of the Great American Bash, to just "The Bash". Don't ask me why they went with it, they just did.

The Chicago Sun-Times has a story up on The Miz verbally attacking baseball star Alfonso Soriano at Judgment Day, so if you didn't see it. You can get the biased review from them. Along with what he exactly said.

Many people are wondering what Maryse said to the Miz on RAW last night, well, here it is:

"She said she doesn't want to speak about Kelly (who won the match earlier) because the bottom line is nobody cares about her and she told him (in the same sentence) that girls like her (like Maryse) won't be involved with guys like him."

This is all for the 411
