Fantasy Baseball Free Agent Pool: Speed Demons

Just because you’ve slipped behind in the Stolen Base category doesn’t mean you can’t catch up. Here are some reasonably available SB threats.

Juan Pierre, OF, Los Angeles Dodgers

Pierre should be gone in most leagues, but he sits at 50 percent Yahoo!, 55.1 percent ESPN, and 70 percent CBS Sportsline ownership.

He swiped four bases last week to go along with 11-for-30 (.367) hitting, eight runs, and five RBI.

On the year, he’s hitting .403 with seven SBs, 17 runs, and 12 RBI. 

Jerry Hairston Jr., 2B/3B/SS/OF, Cincinnati Reds

For his versatility alone he should be owned in more than 16 percent of Yahoo!, 7.7 percent of ESPN, and 24 percent of CBS Sportsline leagues.

Last week, he stole three bases, hit .217 (5-for-23), scored five runs, and had an RBI.

On the year, he’s hitting .247 with four SBs, 21 runs, three HRs, and nine RBI.

Coco Crisp, OF, Kansas City Royals

Coco is only readily available in Yahoo! leagues (39 percent compared to 78.8 percent ESPN and 82 percent CBS Sportsline).

He continues to be a source of SBs, as he swiped three more bags last week while hitting .261 (6 for 23) with five runs, a HR, and three RBI.

On the year, he’s hitting .245 with 11 SBs, 28 runs, three HRs, and 14 RBI.

Michael Bourn, OF, Houston Astros

Bourn continues to be a SB threat (three last week) while providing a nice average (.348). He did little else with four runs and an RBI, but he’s a nice addition for SBs without bringing down your average like the two previous candidates.

On the year, he’s hitting .298 with 13 SBs, 24 runs, one HR, and 10 RBI. He’s owned in 45 percent of Yahoo!, 49.8 percent of ESPN, and 57 percent of CBS Sportsline leagues.

Carlos Gomez, OF, MIN: 8% Yahoo!, 56.7% ESPN, 24% CBS Sportsline

Jayson Nix, 2B, CHA: Less than 1% ownership

Cesar Izturis, SS, BAL: 2% Yahoo!, 1.6% ESPN, 8% CBS Sportsline

Jose Bautista, 3B/OF, TOR: Less than 2% ownership

Franklin Gutierrez, OF, SEA: 3% Yahoo!, 2.8% ESPN, 11% CBS Sportsline

Willie Bloomquist, SS/OF, KC: 2% Yahoo!, 1.1% ESPN, 3% CBS Sportsline
