Weather: Accuweather says that thunderstorms are possible throughout the day, but it should be a clear and mild 25 degrees Celsius in the evening.
Pitch: The Ranchi pitch has delivered some mixed results with one low-scoring match and one where the Super Kings chased down 186. There's not that much in the pitch for the bowlers and the humidity will only get worse as the night wears on. Batting second should be the best bet when winning the toss.
Overview:
The Champions League T20 continues to bustle along at a frantic pace and Thursday has just one match to look forward to. Chennai Super Kings take on the Sunrisers Hyderabad at the JSCA International Stadium Complex, Ranchi.
Both sides have played one game each and both have won, although the Chennai Super Kings top the table on net run rate.
The Sunrisers hold a slight edge, simply because they have had to go through the qualifying process and all their international stars will be well-adapted to Indian conditions by now. Chennai, though, have played their one and only match thus far in Ranchi, so they are far more in-tune with the ground itself.
The evening games have favoured the sides batting second, and both sides won the games they have played thus far chasing a total. It should be an interesting match-up, provided the weather stays clear.
There is much as stake for both sides, and Hyderabad could top the table with a win while Chennai will further extend their stay there for the time being. It isn't quite do or die time just yet, but a win will go a long way in securing a playoff spot for both sides.
Key men
Chennai Super Kings
Michael Hussey is a behemoth of the game and his knock of 47 off 26 for Chennai against the Titans set up the match fantastically well.
It was, however, Dwayne Bravo who stood out with two wicket for 34 runs and a feisty knock of 38 off 26 lower down the order. An all-round effort from the West Indian will be just what Chennai need to see them home.
Sunrisers Hyderabad
Thisara Perera put in a solid all-rounder performance for the Sunrisers when they beat Trinidad & Tobago, picking up two wickets for 26 and hammering 57 off 32. Perera is a fine T20 player, but Hyderabad will have to be cautious to not become too over reliant on one man.
Their batting was rather flat in the last match they played, with far too many average scores and just two players crossing the 20-run mark. Ranchi has favoured the seam bowlers so Darren Sammy could play a crucial role alongside Perera.
