West Brom vs. Arsenal: Date, Time and Preview
Arsenal face West Brom in the Capital One Cup on Wednesday evening and travel to The Hawthorns with a squad depleted by injury.
The Gunners had West Brom's number a year ago, beating them in both meetings by a combined score of 4-1. They weren't so proficient in cup play last season, however, dropping out of the Capital One Cup in the quarterfinals and the FA Cup in Round 5.
West Brom finally got their first Premier League win of the season on Sunday, defeating Sunderland, 3-0, after taking just two points from their first four league games.
Can they turn that result into an upset over a depleted Arsenal side?
When: Wednesday, September 25 at 2:45 p.m. ET (7:45 p.m. BST)
Where: The Hawthorns, West Bromwich, England
Key Storylines
To give you an idea of how beat up Arsenal are, the list of players who will miss the game with injury includes Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Santi Cazorla,Tomas Rosicky, Lukas Podolski, Abou Diaby and Yaya Sanogo.
Despite these injuries, the Gunners have won seven straight matches in all competitions and are top of the Premier League.
David Hytner of The Guardian expects Mikel Arteta to make his first start against West Ham, while the player who tried to get away but ended up staying because he overvalued his own talents, Nicklas Bendtner, will likely start at forward.
Behind striker Stephane Sessegnon, West Brom will look to take advantage of Arsenal's misfortunes.
Prediction
Arsenal are likely to go with a slew of youngsters and squad players as they are already battling a series of injuries to first-choice players.
While Arsenal would love to win silverware this year, most supporters would likely agree there are bigger fish to fry than the Capital One Cup.
This game is all set up for a West Brom "upset" at home. The game will be tight, but the Gunners simply don't have the depth to truly focus on a Premier League, Champions League and Capital One Cup schedule.
West Brom pulls off the shocker, 1-0.
