UFC 165 Medical Suspensions: Jon Jones, Alexander Gustafsson out 60 Days

Sean SmithSep 24, 2013

UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and challenger Alexander Gustafsson were among six UFC 165 competitors to receive 60-day suspensions from the Ontario Athletic Commission.

MMAJunkie.com reported the list of fighter suspensions Monday.

A five-round battle for the 205-pound title left Jones and Gustafsson battered and bleeding as they exited the Octagon Saturday. Both men were hospitalized as a precaution, but they appear to have escaped their war without long-lasting injuries.

While Jones and Gustafsson will be suspended at least two months, neither was likely to return so soon anyway. Only Jones has competed twice within a two-month period since joining the UFC roster, and that was as a replacement opponent for former champion Mauricio Rua.

Should Jones and Gustafsson heal up at a similar pace, a rematch between the two seems likely. Jones' decision victory at UFC 165 was unanimous, but there was some disagreement among MMA fans, and the matchup clearly produced entertaining results.

Another championship-level fighter, Eddie Wineland, also received a two-month suspension following UFC 165. The former WEC champion was knocked out in the second round of his title fight with interim bantamweight champion Renan Barao.

Here is the full list of UFC 165 medical suspensions:
