'Dem Apples: Rory Sabbatini Can Win Without Tiger Playing

Ron JohnsonAug 25, 2007

IconWith Tiger Woods sitting out the first leg of the “playoffs,” the FedEx Cup has become a joke.

But someone forgot to tell Rory Sabbatini.

Despite getting his @$$ handed to him on a silver platter by the King of 18, Sabbatini seems intent on running his mouth—which mean it’s time for someone to tell Rory to shut up and play.

Actions Speak Louder Than Words

When Tiger was in a slump, Sabbatini was the guy to chirp about it.

But where in his insane mind did he believe he could beat the best player in the world?

As an old school wrestler has said time and time again, “To be the Man, you gotta Beat the Man.” Sabbatini said Tiger was as beatable as he'd ever been...then Tiger went out and showed Rory who really owned the course—twice.

First-Round Bye

It's absurd for Sabbatini to gripe about Tiger's taking time off.

Here’s a news flash, Sea Bass: Tiger Woods just had a kid a few weeks ago. If you'd just become a father, wouldn’t you want to spend time with your family?

And if any golfer has earned the right do what he wants when he wants to, it's got to be Tiger.

If Rory is worried about the popularity of the game, he’s out of his mind. As long as Tiger plays golf, golf will thrive. A few weeks off here and there won't make a lick of difference.

Think of it this way: If Peyton Manning can get a first-round bye, so can Tiger Woods.

Riddle Me This

Since Rory Sabbatini called Tiger more “beatable than ever,” Tiger has sent him packing on two consecutive occasions (at the Wachovia Championship and the Bridgestone Invitational).

And still Sabbie won't shut up...because he knows this is his 15 minutes of fame. If he were smart, though, he'd focus on winning a few tournaments before the King comes back to put him in his place.

So, Rory—you called out Tiger and got served twice...and now a hostile golf world wants to see how good you really are.

Riddle me this, champ: How do ya like 'Dem Apples?
