Arsene Wenger Talking About Real Madrid!?

John McIntoshMay 17, 2009

First of all, fair play to Manchester United—well done, the better team won the league and we were second best all year. Hopefully next year we can come back, close the gap, and win the league.

I'm gonna start off with Wenger's interest in Perez, who is favorite to become president of Real Madrid.

Wenger said it was "interesting," and when asked if he had been in contact with him replied "allow me to remain discreet on that matter," according to Telefoot.

Why would Wenger come out all of a sudden and say these things about Real? It's even stranger considering that, in the post match interview against United, he suggested that he wanted to come back with this team and win the title next year.

This Madrid talk sounds like typical media drivel, nothing to talk about so they just stir shite for the sake of it. I wouldn't believe any of these quotes until I read the full interview with Telefoot.

Transfer season is nearly upon us and some of the players the fans are suggesting, Toure, Villa, Silva, etc. are never going to happen. We have to face the facts and realize that we are gonna find it hard to attract big, experienced names to the club this season.

Also the rumors today are that we only have a transfer budget of £13 million. We are linked with Chiellini and Thomas Vermaelen, two promising defenders. Vermaelen would probably have the most truth as his price tag would be much lower than Chiellini and he's quite versatile too.

So, as usual, the media seem to be trying to put a negative spin on Arsenal, with all the rumors about players not signing new contracts, unhappiness, and now the Wenger quotes.

It may be a though preseason ahead for the Gunners. A few quick signings in the summer would make a statement of intent, which might help players like Cesc believe that this team has the talent to overthrow Utd.

Also, with Pat Rice to retire, who should be the new assistant manager?

Gooners, let me know what you think of summer signings, who they should be (please, only realistic names), and what you think Wenger is doing saying these things about Madrid?

Plenty of things to discuss. We should be in for a crazy summer.
