Report: Why CM Punk Wasn't on WWE Television This Week, Update on His Future
CM Punk has been an important staple of WWE programming for around two years now, which makes his absence at this week’s Raw and SmackDown events a little conspicuous.
Punk took some time off after WrestleMania to heal some nagging injuries, but it appears that they’ve resurfaced in recent weeks. According to PWInsider (via wrestlinginc.com):
"CM Punk has been injured for several weeks now, which is why he's barely been wrestling a full match at recent WWE live events. Word is that Punk's knee and ankle are injured but he's dealing with other nagging injuries. The attack from Ryback at Night of Champions will allow Punk one or two weeks off TV.
"
The Second City Saint has shown how resilient he is in the past—he was plagued with knee issues for months prior to WrestleMania XXIX and wrestled his lengthy, epic No. 1 contendership match with John Cena back in February while sick.
One still has to wonder how serious the injuries are and how much longer he can sustain his wellbeing while working the infamously hectic WWE schedule.
The same report also states that backstage interest in Punk’s future is piquing, as his contract is set to expire in the next year:
"A lot of people within WWE are talking about how Punk's deal expires next summer and what that means for his future. It's probably too early to tell what's in store for him but it is something being talked about among the other wrestlers.
"
He’s previously made allusions to the fact that he plans to retire sooner than everyone expects, could that be next year? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
