Jaguars vs. Seahawks: TV Info, Spread, Injury Updates, Game Time and More

Chris RolingSep 22, 2013

Sunday's Week 3 matchup between the Jacksonville Jaguars and Seattle Seahawks has hype surrounding it for all the wrong reasons.

Parity does exist in the NFL, but the natural balance of power comes to an extreme illustration when Seattle welcomes the hapless Jaguars to CenturyLink field.

Jacksonville has yet to win a game after scoring a combined 11 points and surrendering 47 in the first two weeks. Nine of said points came against another bottom-five team in Oakland.

Seattle represents the other side of the spectrum of power. After struggling their way to a victory in Carolina, Russell Wilson and Co. humbled San Francisco with a 29-3 beatdown.

For obvious reasons, there is a collegiate-like spread on this game, with Jacksonville being labeled as underdogs at plus-19.5 points. Here are the other important things to monitor surrounding this seemingly lopsided matchup:

Can Jacksonville Stay Competitive?ย

When the talent level between two teams is this drastic, this is the only thing worth asking. How can the Jaguars stay in this game, or at the very least stay competitive?

It's not as if there is no talent on Jacksonville's roster. Running back Maurice Jones-Drew has looked shaky through two weeks with less than 100 total yards but is more than capable of having a breakout game. Receiver Cecil Shorts is a special player in dire need of proper utilization (and quarterbacking).

The key for Jacksonville to stay in it may very well be following the blueprint Carolina used to almost upset Seattle in Week 1โ€”play stout against the run (Marshawn Lynch rushed for just 43 yards), stay close in time of possession and hope the Seahawks shoot themselves in the foot (nine penalties for 99 yards).ย

The Seahawks can be defeated, but it's going to take a near-perfect game from a talent-depleted roster. Run the football, do it well, and keep Wilson and his weapons off the field.

Anything else and this one gets uglyโ€”fast.

Prediction

The odds are stacked against Jacksonville, but this one may not be as ugly as the oddsmakers think. For what it's worth, the Seahawks are coming off a physical, emotional contest and have a short week to prepare.

More importantly, Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley knows the intricacies of the Seahawks defense after serving as the coordinator of the unit from 2009 through last season. Bradley will draw up an excellent game plan, but whether his talent can effectively execute is another matter entirely.

The deal-breaker hereโ€”outside of the obvious talent disparityโ€”is the home-field advantage CenturyLink field provides. Seattle didn't lose a game at home last year.

Seattle's offense has been questionable at best through two weeks (it started slow last year, too), but the defense has more than accommodated. Expect more of the same as Seattle rolls over Jacksonvilleโ€”just not by the impressive margin many are predicting.

Final Scoreย

Seahawks win 30-17
