CLT20: Sunrisers Hyderabad vs. Kand Maroons Scorecard, Recap & More from Game 2

Shikhar Dhawan, the batsman of the moment, laid down a marker by inspiring his Sunrisers Hyderabad side to a convincing eight-wicket win in their opening qualifier against Kandurata Maroons in the CLT20 in Mohali.

The Sunrisers chose to field first, and their Sri Lankan opponents put on a decent score of 168-3 in their 20 overs.

It was an unsteady start, but after losing openers Upul Tharanga and Shehan Jayasuriya with 33 on the scoreboard, Kumar Sangakkara and Lahiru Thirimanne took charge.

Sangakkara, who played for the Sunrisers in the IPL earlier this year, played solidly, hitting seven fours in an unbeaten 61. 

Thirimanne, captaining the side, was more explosive. His 39-ball of 54 include two maximums.

But their total was made to feel small by the Sunrisers' response.

Parthiv Patel (52) and Dhawan (71 from 53 balls) added 121 in good time for the opening stand.

And any hope the Maroons had of turning the match around when they prised both men out quickly disappeared at the hands of a Sri Lankan.

Thisara Perera, batting at four, crunched four boundaries and two sixes in an 11-ball cameo worth 32 runs to get Hyderabad over the line with room to spare.

Sunrisers take on Faisalabad Wolves on day two, while Kandurata face the victorious Otago Volts in their tie.
