Anquan Boldin's Updated 2013 Fantasy Outlook Heading into Week 3

Alex KayJun 7, 2018

Anquan Boldin, along with the San Francisco 49ers, came back down to earth in Week 2 after a tough loss against the Seattle Seahawks. However, he shouldn’t remain grounded for long as the Niners look to bounce back in Week 3 against the Indianapolis Colts.

Richard Sherman reaffirmed his shutdown corner status and limited Boldin to just one catch for seven yards in the 29-3 blowout that tipped the NFC West in favor of Seattle. That alone should be enough motivation for Boldin to come out and destroy a soft Indianapolis secondary this coming Sunday.

Sherman presented an extremely tough obstacle for the Niners’ top option to overcome, as the 6’3”, 195-pound defensive back has raw physicality and strength to match his mark, plus superior speed and agility.

The 6’1”, 220-pound Boldin should return to form next week against the Colts’ top two corners, Vontae Davis and Greg Toler. The latter was repeatedly burned by Mike Wallace of the Miami Dolphins this past Sunday as the receiver caught nine passes for 115 yards and a score.

It remains to be seen if the Indianapolis coaching staff will switch up the coverage plan after that fiasco, but Boldin should be able to dominate regardless.

Due to his immensely strong hands and skill as a route-runner, the 11-year veteran should be able to come up with something in the range of 10 receptions. What he does with those largely depends on the type of coverage and where the 49ers are in terms of field position.

One thing that is certain is that Boldin will not be hurting for targets. He should once again be the main receiving threat and could easily quadruple the four looks he saw on Sunday evening.

Colin Kaepernick, the 49ers' signal-caller, wasn’t able to locate Boldin throughout the Sunday Night Football contest, and ended up throwing at least one interception when he tried to force it into coverage.

It was one of the worst performances of his young career, something he will certainly work to improve upon in practice this week. When this team finally gets a chance to atone for its failures, watch out.

Don’t be surprised to see Boldin go off for big numbers as the 49ers try to go blow-for-blow in an offensive battle out in Indianapolis. Fantasy owners of the San Fran superstar should be quite pleased as he returns to greatness and leads them to victory.

Predicted Week 3 Stat Line: 11 receptions for 127 yards and two touchdowns.
