June Is a Great Month for the Sport of Boxing!
If you are a huge fan of the sweet science of boxing like I am, then you are in for a treat during the month of June.
June will bring us true boxing fans so many great meaningful fights, it makes a fight fan wonder when was the last time we had so many great fights all in one single month?
It all kicks off Friday, June 5, with Carlos Quitana, the only boxer ever to defeat the most avoided man in all of boxing (Paul Williams). Quitana will be facing Danny Perez in a 10-round light middleweight bout on ESPN's Friday Night's Fights.
The Friday after that, June 12, on ESPN's Friday Night Fights, knockout artist Robert "the Ghost" Guerrero, will look to redeem his debut performance at super featherweight which ended in a early NC when he fights Johnnie Edwards in a 10-round super featherweight bout.
The next day, Saturday June 13, will bring us probably one of the most meaningful greatest welterweight title fights in years when HBO will bring us Miguel Cotto vs. Joshua Clottey. This will be by far Cotto's hardest fight to date, minus a cheating plaster of Paris Margarito, of course.
Then the following Saturday, June 20, we will "hopefully" have the most exciting significant heavyweight title fight since Holyfield vs. Tyson (Hey a fight fan can dream can't he?) when Wladimir Klitschko will defend his titles against the flamboyant David Haye. Haye has been chasing both Klitschkos for a few years now all while creating a ton of publicity and buzz for this highly anticipated championship fight on HBO.
Then the following Saturday June 27 on HBO, undefeated super featherweight champion Chris John has a rematch with Rocky Juarez. Many are calling their first fight a controversial hometown draw which John clearly won. Victor Ortiz also will be fighting Marcos Rene Maidana in a light welterweight fight.
Also on that same night on Top Rank Pay Per View, fast rising star Juan Manuel Lopez, who is the next big exciting sensation to win over the masses, faces Olivier Lontchi in a super bantamweight title fight.
On the under card is: Fernando Montiel vs Eric Morel in what should be a good bantamweight title fight, as well as undefeated Mike Alvarado vs Paul Malignaggi.
Why can't every month be like June...don't you concur, fight fans?
