Oregon Football Player Trolls the SEC, Says 'They're Really Big and Scary'

“Oooh...the big, bad SEC. I’m shakin’ in my little space boots.”

It’s not exactly what Jake Fisher said, but it’s what he meant.

The Oregon Ducks lineman gave a candid interview on Thursday that began with formalities and ended in Fisher sarcastically reeling off his fears about playing against the SEC.

Video of Fisher’s interview was spotted by Samer Kalaf of Deadspin, and no, the 6’6”, 290-pound junior doesn’t appear to be ruining his Jockeys over the Ducks’ upcoming game against the Tennessee Volunteers.

Fisher’s sarcasm came on (somewhat) slow, complimenting the conference in a way that a less cynical fan might believe was genuine praise.

“They’re big, strong and fast, and they’re the SEC,” Fisher said. “And no one can beat the SEC, so, we’re going to have all the challenges.”

Huh, that doesn’t seem too bad. He’s just being honest. It’s not like anyone can defeat the SEC. It’s like the Megazord of college football.

Fisher’s “flattery” quickly poured over into cloying sarcasm, however.

“Yea, they’re really big and scary,” Fisher said. “So we’re all really, really intimidated by the SEC, so we’re just going to have to keep our minds right.”

Mmmm...you taste that? That’s the hollow sweetness of saccharin, Vols fans. Artificial praise from a man who is not in the least bit terrified of playing a team from college football’s superconference.

That is the confidence of a team that has dropped 125 combined points on its opponents over the first two games of the college football season. The Ducks are pinnacle predators in the Pac-12 and will be looking for bigger prey when they host the Volunteers on Saturday.

I'll give Fisher the final word. His dream is coming true, after all.

“Yeah, it’s our dream to play the SEC,” Fisher said, “So, you know, we’re just going to come out and play a good game.”
