Week 2 Fantasy Sleepers: Underrated Players Who Will Come Up Huge on 2nd Weekend

Kyle NewportSep 11, 2013

Fantasy owners are looking to play matchups, so look at starting Darren McFadden and other underrated players who will have big performances in Week 2.

This list consists of players who are often overlooked but have the potential to break out at any time.

Week 1 had plenty of newcomers make their mark. This week should feature veterans who are looking to show that they can still play,

McFadden had an underwhelming opening game, but he is one of a few sleepers who will reward owners in Week 2. ย

Jay Cutler, QB, Chicago Bears

Chicago started the season off by beating the Cincinnati Bengals, and Jay Cutler showed that he can still get the job done.

He threw for 242 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. Although he has often been criticized and overlooked, he continues to put up quality numbers.

The 30-year-old has plenty of weapons to work with on offense. Brandon Marshall is an elite receiver, and Alshon Jeffery gives him a tall target to throw to in the red zone. Matt Forte has been a great running back, and he can also catch passes out of the backfield.

Chicago hosts Minnesota on Sunday. The Vikings allowed Matthew Stafford to throw for 357 yards and two touchdowns in their first game. Detroit scored 34 points against Minnesota, so the Bears will be able to put up points as well.

Cutler led his team to a come-from-behind victory against a tough Bengals defense, and he will now get his chance to beat up on a division rival.

Darren McFadden, RB, Oakland Raiders

McFadden has been plagued by injuries throughout his career, so fantasy owners have started to give up on the running back. This might be the best week to give him a start as the Raiders host the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Most NFL fans will only pay attention to this game if they have a player on their fantasy team, but the Raiders will be a fun team to watch in this one. With Terrelle Pryor having a breakout game against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 1, Oakland has some talent to work with in the backfield.

Pryor and McFadden have a chance to be a dominant force on the ground. McFadden had 17 carries for 48 yards and a touchdown against the Colts.

The Kansas City Chiefs were able to run for 120 yards against the Jaguars, and the Raiders ran for 171 yards last week. McFadden is in position to have a big game against a bad defense, so he is worth a start if you have him.

Dallas Clark, TE, Baltimore Ravens

Baltimore needs to move past last week's blowout in Denver. It's done and over with, so the team needs to rebound with a big win in Week 2. It will celebrate its Super Bowl victory with a home game against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.

Joe Flacco will have Torrey Smith, but Jacoby Jones will miss the next couple of weeks. The quarterback now needs someone to step up.

Dallas Clark had a big game in Week 1, and he should continue to get looks as the Ravens look to move the football. He had seven receptions for 87 yards against the Broncos, and he should have another good effort this week.

The Browns have Joe Haden in the secondary, so Smith could have a rough game. The middle of the field could be open for Clark as the Browns have to focus on stopping Ray Rice on the ground.

Clark will need to step up if the Ravens are going to contend this season. The 34-year-old showed that he can still make an impact last week, but now his team is looking for him to help it win games.
