WWE Night of Champions: Simulating Confirmed Matches with WWE '13

Brian MaziqueJun 8, 2018

Strangely enough, Night of the Champions, set for Sunday, Sept. 15, only has five confirmed matches. A sixth match, as well as a seventh involving members of the Shield, is expected as well. The pay-per-view is billed as the show that puts each of the WWE's titles on the line, so it would seem that more will be added on SmackDown or the night of the pay-per-view.

As of now, the only title that doesn't have an angle is Dean Ambrose's U.S. championship. Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins will likely take on the winners of the Tag Team Turmoil match.

That match couldn't be simulated because WWE '13 doesn't allow for the stipulations. Thus, I could only do four of the confirmed matches.

For the sake of predictions, I'm betting the Prime Time Players come out on top. It is clear that they are getting the most significant push of the four teams involved. We all know 3MB is there to be doormats; the Usos' push vanished for no apparent reason, Tons of Funk are a comedy act and the Real Americans bore most people to death.

With all that established, here's a look at the four simulated matches.

Divas Champion: AJ Lee vs. Brie Bella vs. Naomi vs. Natalya

1 of 4

AJ is head and shoulders above the rest of the Divas division in regards to overall appeal. She looks great, sells moves well and works like a maniac on her in-ring ability.

Is there a Diva or Superstar in the WWE who has a better submission maneuver? I think not.

In the simulation AJ came out on top after hitting her old-school finisher on poor Naomi. I love the Funkadactyls, but they need to split up to allow Naomi to reach her potential.

CM Punk vs. Paul Heyman and Curtis Axel

2 of 4

As good as Heyman and Punk are together in the same angle, this feud needs to end soon. Curtis Axel can't be taken seriously in a handicap match with Heyman, and Punk shouldn't even be feuding with an Intercontinental Champion.

Both Punk and Axel are impressive in-ring performers, so before Punk gets a chance to go after Heyman, they may actually work an exciting match. Still, it may wind up being a waste. Axel is destined to job to Punk to usher in the "Punk chases Heyman" sequence.

As for the simulation, it was hard to get the CPU to react in a way that is consistent with the current storyline. Axel and Punk had some decent moments, but ultimately Heyman got the pinfall over CM Punk after a belly-flop splash.

Go figure.

World Heavyweight Champion: Alberto Del Rio vs. RVD

3 of 4

I'm excited to see this match. It is easy to imagine RVD getting the gold, but what would the WWE do with Alberto Del Rio if he wasn't a champion? He's a hard sell as it is. Without the gold he could really fall on the card.

RVD and Ricardo Rodriguez are an odd match. It seems like just a matter of time before the two of them are split. Maybe Ricardo turns on RVD at Night of Champions to bring him the heat he never seemed to get as Del Rio's manager.

In the simulation RVD did indeed become the World Heavyweight champion with a Five-Star Frog Splash. It's even cool to see on the video game.

WWE Champion: Randy Orton vs. Daniel Bryan

4 of 4

These two will probably produce a classic before the inevitable outside interference takes place. Bryan and Orton know how to tell a story and can move with the best of them.

Triple H and the Shield are going to get involved in some way. Hopefully it doesn't ruin a memorable meeting between two of the company's best in-ring workers.

As far as unexpected twists, don't get your hopes up. If you're looking for the big equalizer to arrive and release the tortured Superstars and Divas from the bosses' control, you probably won't see it on Saturday night.

Bryan will be made to suffer a little while longer. I fully expect Orton to remain champion after this match with a little help from his friends.

The WWE '13 simulation seems to agree. In the coolest simulation of the four, Orton defeated Bryan and kept the title.
