Man Utd: Monopoly Wins Yet Again

Mohamed Eldin MasriMay 16, 2009

Today Manchester United have won their 18th title and have equaled Liverpool's national record and became the champions for the 3rd time in a row. Most people are saying that there is no team that is worthy of fighting United for the title in the years to come, while fans of other teams are saying that it's hard for other teams to compete with United's wealth and resources.

But really, why would we blame them for being one of the richest clubs on the planet? Or that they have a stadium that can seat over 75,000 fans. I mean what are they supposed to do? Have all the money on the planet and not spend it like Arsenal? Or just stop buying all the good players that they could afford ?

However, while you can't blame United, there are a few people that could be blamed, and I'm not going to talk about refereeing decisions because I REALLY, REALLY , REALLY don't want fan boys cursing me all day and night long.

When Arsene Wenger came in his first season, he said that the fixtures weren't at all fair, and that they were in the favour of an already dominant force.

This year Rafael Benitez said (and I quote) "During the Respect campaign—and this is a fact—Mr. Ferguson was charged by the FA for improper conduct after comments made about Martin Atkinson and Keith Hackett.

He was not punished. He is the only manager in the league that cannot be punished for these things. We need to know that I am talking about facts, not my impression. There are things that everyone can see every single week. To complain and to always have an advantage is not fair."

Now, I don't like to throw in an opinion because I'll rely on facts in this topic to avoid as much of the criticism and hatred as possible. But here are a few facts, Man Utd had Arsenal, Liverpool , Aston Villa, Tottenham, Chelsea, Manchester City and Everton played at Old Trafford in the 2nd half of the season.

To state that these fixtures are unfair is the understatement of the season, and to delay two games against two of the weaker sides in the premier league is like giving them a 6 point advantage over the other teams.

And I understand that Man Utd had a club World cup to play, but why on earth were the fixtures delayed all season long? They could've played them after the World cup or before the Champions league semi finals. Now, I'm not trying to ruin the celebrations for the fans, but we can easily state that the FA association isn't exactly giving the other teams in the league such fixtures at all.

There is no doubt that Man Utd is favoured by the FA association, but this is getting more and more obvious by the season, and no one can do anything about it.

Man Utd are slowly creating a monopoly, and such a thing worries me. You see, Serie A was the No. 1 league in the World, untill the Scudetto scandal and Inter Milan's dominance. Serie A slowly became the No. 3 league in the rankings, being labeled as boring, but at least Inter played against Juventus and Genoa in their stadiums and in not the San Siro.

Finally I would like to congratulate Man Utd on equalising Liverpool's record, but I hope to see more fairness in the near future when it comes to fixtures, and to see matches that make sense throughout the campaign and not the top seven in the league at Old Trafford in the second half of the season.

And please, if you're going to leave comments below, then please talk facts and not  opinion, If anyone curses or writes in an inappropriate manner then I will simply mark as offensive and ignore it. Please debate in a civilized manner.

Thank you and have fun celebrating.
