Banzai Pipeline: Ehukai Beach, Hawaii

This is a video of the much more milder waves during May. Despite being considered mild waves, they were still very intense and it was a pleasure to watch these surfers masterfully them carve up.

Banzai Pipeline is the most famous surf site in all of Hawaii and perhaps the world. The winter time is when massive tubular waves roll in. If you aren’t an expert, these waves are not for you and most likely you will be chased away by the local surfers.

Pipeline is unmarked part of Sunset Beach Park between Waimea Bay on Oahu’s North Shore. The North Shore is completely different from the crowded beaches of the Leeward Side of the Island.

The North Shore is what the locals refer to as the country and they intend to keep it that way. You will only find one resort here, plenty of open space on the beach and even sea turtles that beach themselves in the sand. It’s an amazing place, but do be respectful of this calmness if you visit.

We by no means pretend to be surfing gods, but we do know how to eat and drink. Here are some suggestions to fill up in you are in the area.

Giovanni’s Shrimp Truck

As laid back as the beaches of the north shore. Get them spicy, garlicky or with Lemon Butter and wash the buggers down with Passion Orange Guava or as the locals call it, POG.

Hang Ten Bar and Grill @ Turtle Bay

Here you can relax outside, watch surfers, drink a Mai Tai and get some parking validated in one swoop. After a drink here, you start dreaming about ditching your job and skipping that pesky return flight.

Shaved Ice at Matsumoto in Haleiwa

Shaved Ice is a Hawaiian treat which consists of shaved ice, flavored syrup and if you wish condensed milk.
