Twitter Reacts to Heisman Hopeful Teddy Bridgewater's Big Day

Leo HowellJun 2, 2018

Fans of the Louisville Cardinals, bad NFL teams in need of quarterbacks and good football in general have had their eyes on Teddy Bridgewater for a while now.

With his incredible start to the 2013-14 season, he's got the whole nation talking about his potential and his performances.

Bridgewater raised his touchdown total for the season to nine as he and the Cardinals rolled to an easy win over hopeless Eastern Kentucky.

Check out this tweet from ESPN with a video of the final TD toss for Bridgewater to see just a bit of what Teddy was up to on Saturday afternoon.

But the video also speaks to one of the biggest criticism for Bridgewater, his level of competition.

So far this season, the Louisville signal caller has shredded the likes of EKU and Ohio University, and there's not much hope for a bigger challenge down the road.

So assessing Bridgewater is not going to be all stats based. And it seems like the player knows that, as he wasn't pleased with his big day.

He told the media in the video linked above that his team "didn't play up to their level" on Satuday, and that they're "chasing perfection" as a team.

He's still hungry, and that's a great sign.

There are plenty of reasons to be excited about Bridgewater's potential. Check out these tweets giving props to the Miami native.

I believe that Bridgewater is definitely a contender for the Heisman, and it doesn't have to do with his 2013-14 season at all.

The finale of the 2012-13 season for the Louisville Cardinals was the Sugar Bowl against the Florida Gators. Bridgewater had a solid game against a defense dripping with NFL talent, and he proved he's more than just the product of a great situation in a weak conference.

I'm not the only one who has confidence in Teddy this season:

Former South Florida QB Matt Grothe is a fan and, as an alumni of a conference rival of Louisville, Grothe certainly didn't owe the Cardinals any favors when he offered this confident prediction.

Bridgewater is going to have eyes on him all season, and Heisman voters will have their chances to evaluate him. Despite his team playing weak opposition, almost all of his games this season will air on national television.

He also already has a media circus following him at the early stages of the season.

So, it's safe to say that there is every opportunity for Bridgewater to catch the eye of Heisman decision makers and state his case this season.

Perhaps more important for Bridgewater is his NFL future, which seems bright at the moment. CBS Sports' draft expert Dane Brugler offers this bit of wishful thinking that I'm sure we can all agree with:

Bridgewater had started the season off in fantastic fashion, and seems set to collide with Clowney in the quest to be a top pick in the draft. Can he find a way to prove the doubters wrong, and increase his value despite a weak schedule?

I think he can, and apparently so does this guy:

Today's performance was just another step towards a trip to the Heisman Trophy ceremony and a top two selection in the NFL Draft.
