The Problems With the Titles and Can They Be Fixed?
Hello, everyone. As always, I would like to thank you for checking out my latest read.
Folks, the world of professional wrestling has a problem. It is a problem we are all aware of, and that is the credibility the titles holds these days.
It wasn't that long ago when you were the champion, it meant a few things, it meant the company had faith to put the ball in your hands.

It also meant that you could build feuds and cards around a champion to advertise to its fans.
For example when Hogan, or Savage, or Bret Hart was the champion the WWE would take the time to build cards around these guys.
It not only was good for the WWE, but also for the wrestlers, as far as how much cash would be put in their pockets. The fans would seethe in anger, or agony over who would finally take the strap of Hogan or Savage.
Sadly those days are long gone. Their is absolutely no suspense or build anymore when it comes to the heavyweight title.
Why would their be, when every other month the title is being swapped from one person to another like a baseball card?
Take Edge for example. Am I to think that since Edge is a nine-time champion, that he is better than Hogan, Hart, Backlund, or Savage?
Well maybe in the eyes of a half-witted wrestling fan, that may be the case. For those of us who know our wrestling history, though, that is not the case.
Now before you Edgeheads come screaming with pitch forks, keep in mind the problem isn't with the superstars; it's with the company.
In fact it could be very well argued that the talent on the current roster is better than it has ever been.
It shows a couple things, when the belt is hot swapped like has been.
For starters, it shows that the company has no faith in most of the roster to carry the promotion. Secondly it shows to us and the share holders it has no clue which way the company is going.
If ya don't think I know what I am talking about, pull up WWE's Quarterlies and see for yourself: they are losing money hand over fist.
The house show attendance are down. Their monthly PPVs are down, and they are paying out more in salary than they are taking in.
Here is the real question folks: Can this problem be fixed?
In this wrestling fan's opinion, of course it can. The WWE has some of the best superstars in the business. With all the star power they have, it should be no problem at all.
For starters, we can end the split brand and unify all the titles. I realize this may upset some, because their guy may never be champ. It has to be done though, in order to create stability.
The next step in the right direction would be to stop hot swapping the heavyweight belt.
This may mean we may see HHH the champ for most of the year, but at least they could build a program around that and make it mean something when he does lose it.
Also they need to make the secondary titles count for something. There is no reason the IC title or tag straps can't be important.
If they defended them on a regular basis, and took the time to build up real divisions for the respected titles, there is no reason they couldn't be draws again.
Folks, this isn't rocket science stuff here. In the 80s and 90s, WWE was making money like no tomorrow. Today though they are struggling to break even.
As they say Money talks, folks, and I think we know what walks.
Without a credible champion, the company will continue to struggle and that is bad for everyone including us fans.
Well, folks, that is my two cents in the issue. As always, folks, thanks for taking the time to read.
Good day and God bless.
