Wayne Rooney Transfer News and Rumours: Latest Updates for Sep 2 Deadline Day
The transfer window slams shut at 11 p.m. BST on Monday, and Wayne Rooney is still a Manchester United player.
A rumour-filled summer has seen Rooney's future at Old Trafford in some doubt with the England striker linked to Chelsea, Arsenal and clubs in other leagues such as Real Madrid, PSG and Monaco at various points this summer.
Rooney will be sidelined for the immediate future after an accidental collision saw him go to hospital with a forehead laceration according to The Mirror, forcing him out of Sunday’s clash with Liverpool. United lost that match 1-0.
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho said on Friday that his pursuit of Rooney was over, Sky Sports reported.
But heading into the final two years of the five-year contract he signed in 2010, Rooney’s long-term commitment to stay at Old Trafford remains unclear.
Will he still be a Manchester United player on Tuesday morning? It looks likely but you never know in football.
