Adrian Peterson's Interview: Does He Believe In Tarvaris Jackson?
Adrian Peterson took the time out of his busy schedule today to sit down for an interview on ESPNNews.
As expected, Peterson was thrown countless questions about Brett Favre possibly signing with the Vikings. Did this come as a surprise to anyone? It sure as heck didn't to me.
When Peterson was asked what the Vikings chances of making a super bowl with Favre, he simply re-stated that he was confident in the what Minnesota already has at quarterback, that being Sage Rosenfels and Tarvaris Jackson.
A.P. said that Tarvaris has "all the talent in the world", but just hasn't found his rhythm in the offense quite yet. Maybe he knows something that we don't know about Jackson.
I have always said that Tarvaris has massive amounts of talent, but he doesn't know how to utilize it quite yet. Time is running out, though.
When Minnesota drafted Tarvaris with a second-round-pick in 2006, I was a bit sceptical. Was this kid really going to be something special for us in the future?
Brad Childress loved Jackson right from the start. He thought his potential to be something great, was a very high possibility.
Could this be why he hasn't given up on him yet?
How many chances can a player truly have? When does one finally reach the bottom of the barrel?
If Tarvaris were on any other team, I'm pretty sure he would have been cut by now. I'm not saying he sucks as a quarterback, but for now, he does as a starter.
I will stand up and say that I absolutely would hate it if Tarvaris was the starting quarterback. It appears as if he has learned little since coming into the league three years ago.
Don't get me wrong, I would love for him to be on the team, perhaps a back-up or a third-string QB. Just absolutely, nothing more than that.
I can see where Adrian gets his confidence from, he's always been a team-first type of player. I, also, can see where he would believe in Tarvaris. But tell me this, does anybody else think that he's going to one day be a star in this league?
I believe that Jackson should continue to learn the system and be mentored by a veteran with more than a few years experience. Learn the ropes and how it really is to be a quarterback in the NFL.
I must be prepared to face the chance of Tarvaris starting come week one next season. In all likely-hood, Childress will make some bone-headed mistake and throw T-Jack into a game where he doesn't belong.
Yes, he was hot down the stretch, but that seems like a fluke at this point. I loved how he played over the last couple of games. I even said that he might be turning his career around 180 degrees.
An absolute bubble-burster in the playoffs made me change my mind. I was already back to the notion that he can not perform in the clutch.
Minnesota needs a reliable quarterback that can be mistake-free when we need it the most.
Tarvaris, often times, gets pressure from the defense and decides to hurl the ball into the air, rather than just opting to throw it out of bounds.
I would much rather take a down than have the defense pick it off, and then having it close to our territory.
If Jackson can shock the world and become a good quarterback, I am all for him starting for us in the future. Just for now, I don't want him being the No. 1 QB on the depth chart.
