Mayweather vs. Canelo: Watch Episode 2 Clip of Showtime's All Access Series

Brian MaziqueMay 31, 2018

Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s manager/adviser Leonard Ellerbe has the chops to make it as a manager or personality in the WWE. The mic work he lays down during the second episode of the Showtime documentary series All Access: Mayweather vs. Canelo is exemplary.

The purpose of the series, for those that are unaware, is to hype the Sept. 14 clash between "Money" Mayweather and 154-pound champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.

In the video above, Ellerbe narrates and takes viewers on a 1:30 ride. He spits venom at Canelo and his management team. All Floyd does in the video is train like a maniac and reaffirm his dominance in the sport he’s reigned in for over a decade. He does it P. Diddy-chant style while Ellerbe delivers the equivalent of a nasty set of bars in an expertly penned hip-hop verse.

Weight is a major subject in this snippet from the documentary. Ellerbe wants to set the record straight on how the bout became a catchweight fight. Ellerbe says that Alvarez’s “idiot” manager (Jose “Chepe” Reynoso) brought up the possibility of fighting at a catchweight on Boxing Scene, and the Money Team simply took him up on the offer.

There is still a discrepancy between the camps there, per Boxing Clever of Boxing Scene.

Many people—including Ellerbe—see the 152-pound weight limit as a disadvantage for the younger and naturally bigger Alvarez, but these are the stipulations.

A young fighter (Alvarez is 23) would presumably have more issues cutting weight than an older fighter (Mayweather is 36) would have gaining weight. Though Mayweather still holds a belt at 154 pounds, most of his career has taken place at welterweight.

This, plus the skill and experience advantage Mayweather seems to hold is the reason Ellerbe says confidently, “Canelo got a problem.”
