Davey Richards, Rebecca Quin and Latest WWE NXT Developmental News
Names are the theme of the most recent NXT news, both with prospects getting their official ring names and WWE reportedly looking to add more names from around the world like Davey Richards.
Rebecca Quin is among a long list of NXT prospects who received new monikers. Stars from Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling may soon join them in the WWE developmental system with their names changed as well.
In other news, it just got easier to watch NXT and see fantastic matches like Antonio Cesaro and Sami Zayn's recent two-out-of-three falls masterpiece. If this remains true, more folks will see Paige knock heads around and Zayn dazzle in the ring.
NXT for Free
1 of 5Recently, WWE fans have had to shell out extra cash to see the NXT prospects in action.
The critically acclaimed NXT show was shown only on Hulu Plus, which requires a subscription. However, for the time being, fans can check out WWE's future free of charge on Hulu.com.
That means a wider audience can see Corey Graves' sinister charisma, Adrian Neville's refusal to obey gravity and a superior Divas division than the one on the main roster. Hopefully, this lasts a good while, as being a WWE fan is already a pricey endeavor.
New Names
2 of 5Bryan Danielson became Daniel Bryan, and Chris Hero became Kassius Ohno.
WWE fans know the routine by now. The company signs a big name off the independent circuit and rechristens them with a name of their own so the company can trademark it.
According to PWInsider.com, via WrestlingInc.com, a number of newer prospects made that transformation.
Rebecca Quin will now go by Becky Lynch. Here's a list of the other new names confirmed:
- Smith "Big Game" James: Bull Dempsey
- CJ Perry: Lana
- Cole: Cole Andrews
- Adam Scherr: Braun Stowman
- Brittany Fetkin: Devin Taylor
- Erika Hammond: Veronica Lane
- Lexi Kaufman: Alexa Bliss
Kaufman is a former bodybuilder who fits her new name perfectly. "Big Game" James gets a good ring name as well.
The most questionable call here is making strongman Adam Scherr go by Braun Stowman, which is mighty awkward coming off the tongue.

James Bronson Interview
3 of 5NXT fans haven't seen James Bronson in action in a long while. A spinal injury took the intimidating prospect out of the ring, perhaps for good.
Robert Krupar of Art of Wrestling interviewed Bronson recently, and the man once known as "Fear Factor" had some interesting things to say about NXT's current crop of potential Superstars.
He called Kassius Ohno "a great guy" and noted that Corey Graves "smells great." About the two Rotunda brothers, he said that Bo Dallas has "fire for days" and is apparently daughter-dating material. He also said that Bray Wyatt "did not have an easy road to get where he is."
Perhaps most noteworthy is his comment about Paige. He said that she "will eventually be named best diva ever."
Bronson may be a victim of the moment here, but Paige certainly has a shot at being the best Diva in the division right now. Overtaking Trish Stratus and Lita is going to be a monumental task, however.
It's going to be awesome to see her try, though.
American Wolves to NXT?
4 of 5Reminiscent of when WWE signed names like Curt Hennig and Rick Martel away from the American Wrestling Association, the company has been plucking the best talent from the world of the independents.
Ring of Honor's The American Wolves, Eddie Edwards and Davey Richards, could be next.
PWInsider, via WrestlingInc.com, reports that "both men are expected to be at the WWE Performance Center in September for another weekend-long talent evaluation camp."
Edwards and Richards have had great success at the independent level, but neither is a lock to sign with WWE despite their talent. Their ring work is stellar, but their charisma and mic work isn't elite.
A few years ago, one would have said that Richards' size would keep him from signing, but with smaller guys like Ryan Drago and Samuray Del Sol getting shots, the former Ring of Honor world champs might follow them into NXT.
WWE's Interest in Prince Devitt
5 of 5Add another intriguing wrestler to the list of guys WWE is reportedly interested in.
Prince Devitt, an Irish wrestler who has made his name in Japan, is apparently on WWE's radar thanks to William Regal.
Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com reports that "[Devitt's] name continues to come up in discussions about potential talents the company would like to recruit."
Signing Devitt would be a continuation of an evolution to a smaller, sleeker wrestler. While he makes CM Punk look big, Devitt is a fascinating performer who can make an impact with the company.
With names like Adrian Neville, Sami Zayn and possibly Devitt being a part of NXT, one has to wonder if a cruiserweight division revival is in the works, or if our definition of what a wrestler looks like is going to have to change.
