Predicting Nebraska's Stats vs. Wyoming

Patrick RungeJun 6, 2018

After waiting through months of offseason, Nebraska football fans are now finally able to sink their collective teeth into an actual game week.

Productivity at workplaces throughout the state will dip this week as fans imagine how Nebraska will do against Wyoming, their first opponent.

So let’s think ahead a little and take a stab at what Nebraska’s stat line might look like on Saturday evening after Week 1 is in the books.

Given the nature of the opponent, look for Nebraska to lean on the running game as NU works its way into the 2013 season.

Offensive coordinator Tim Beck will likely want to give Taylor Martinez some work in the season opener, but the passing game should be secondary to Nebraska's likely success.

The opening game for what is likely to be the best receiving corps in the Big Ten conference should see the veterans getting the majority of the catches.

Wyoming's spread offense and senior quarterback should provide a first test for Nebraska's new-look defense, particularly for some of the newcomers looking to make their mark.

Even though Nebraska brought in Pat Smith from Western Kentucky, look for Mauro Bondi to finally win the kicking duties for NU going forward. However, we may see somewhat of a rotation between the two until the position is firmly established.
