On Monday, the magazine's official website published an article that serves as a tease for its new issue and the piece written by contributing editor Paul Solotaroff titled "The Gangster in the Huddle," which centers on Hernandez's life and the people he surrounded himself with.ย

Here is what the website asserts will be included in the upcoming piece.ย

"

โ€ข Hernandez was a heavy user of angel dust, and had become so paranoid over the last year that he carried a gun wherever he went.

โ€ข He surrounded himself with a cohort of gangsters, and cut himself off from his family and teammates.ย

โ€ข Hernandez had so infuriated his head coach, Bill Belichick, with missed practices and thug-life stunts, that he was one misstep from being cut.

โ€ข Both his parents, Dennis and Terri, had criminal records, as did much of his extended family.

โ€ข Terri allegedly cheated on Dennis before his death with a violent drug dealer named Jeffrey Cummings, then married Cummings after Dennis died and moved him into the house she shared with Aaron.

โ€ข In college his coach (then-University of Florida head coach Urban Meyer) may have helped cover up failed drug tests, along with two violent incidents โ€” an assault and a drive-by shootout outside a local bar.

"

Rolling Stone statesย Solotaroff procured numerous interviews with the likes of "family friends, high school teammates and NFL sources."

There isn't just one thing that smacks you in the face. It's more like a giant wave of shocking details that, if true, would certainly serve to create a portrait of a star athlete who is nowย allegedย to have murdered someone and gone to great lengths to cover it up.ย

As CBS Sports' Will Brinsonย reports, Hernandez was indicted on a charge of first-degree murder for the death ofย Odin Lloyd, and he will beย arraignedย on Sept. 6.ย

As a great legal battle is waged in the Bristol County courthouse, fans are left to fill in the blanks of a man's life that was far more private than anyone would have ever imagined.ย It's obvious that a great many stories and sordid details will begin to leak closer to the trial.ย

Still, there is noย cushioningย the blow of assertions that the NFL player was an angel dust user or the allegations that one of his former coaches, and a much beloved one at that, may have known about some of Hernandez's criminal activity.ย

It's rather peculiar to have that allegation tucked away at the bottom of this particular shortlist. Drug use aside,ย purportingย that one of the biggest names in college football may have helped cover up drug use and violent acts is a tremendous bombshell.ย

Hernandez is still in jail and awaiting his day in court. In the meantime, fans are being treated to quite the tale of a man who may have lived and breathed violence and drugs.ย
