Fantasy Baseball Free Agent Pool: Strikeout Kings
Some reasonably available players to assist you in the Strikeouts category. Realize that some of these will come with high ERAs & WHIPs because if a pitcher has low numbers in those categories and a good K total, they’re already spoken for.
Matt Palmer, Los Angeles Angels- Matt went 2-0 last week with 13 Ks, a 3.14 ERA, and a 0.84 WHIP. His K/9 ratio was 8.16 and his K/BB ratio was 2.6. On the year he’s 4-0 wit 16 Ks, a 3.38 ERA and a 0.98 WHIP. He is owned in 10 percent of Yahoo!, 0.9 percent of ESPN, and 11 percent of CBS Sportsline leagues.
Jordan Zimmermann, Washington Nationals- Jordan was awful last week with a 8.25 ERA and 1.50 WHIP. He was bailed out by his Offense getting him two no-decisions. He did manage 12 Ks though if you need help there. His K/9 ratio was 9.0 and his K/BB ratio was 2.4. On the year he’s 2-1 with 26 K, a 5.90 ERA, and a 1.41 WHIP.
He’s owned in 55 percent of Yahoo!, 13.2 percent of ESPN, and 62 percent of CBS Sportsline leagues.
Jorge de la Rosa, Colorado Rockies- Jorge had a fine week with 12 Ks, a 2.25 ERA, and a 0.63 WHIP. His K/9 ratio was 13.5 and his K/BB ratio was 12.0. On the year he’s 0-3 with 35 Ks, a 3.53 ERA, and a 1.21 WHIP.
He’s owned in 19 percent of Yahoo!, 1.8 percent of ESPN, and 16 percent of CBS Sportsline leagues.
Brandon McCarthy, Texas Rangers - McCarthy had 11 Ks last week. He also got bombed with a 9.0 ERA and a 1.45 WHP. His K/9 ratio was 9.0 and his K/BB ratio was 2.75. On the year he’s 3-1 with 29 Ks, a 5.92 ERA and a 1.45 WHIP.
He is owned in seven percent of Yahoo!, 1.1 percent of ESPN, and 22 percent of CBS Sportsline leagues. With that ERA I suggest you only use him as a short-term K solution.
Brian Bannister, Kansas City Royals - Bannister is having a great start for the Royals. Last week he was 1-1 with 10 Ks, a 1.54 ERA, and a 1.03 WHIP. His K/9 ratio was 7.71 and his K/BB ratio was 5.0.
On the year he’s 3-1 with 17 Ks, a 1.80 ERA, and a 1.17 WHIP. He’s owned in 63 percent of Yahoo!, 14.3 percent of ESPN, and 57 percent of CBS Sportsline leagues.
Barry Zito, San Francisco Giants - Zito continues to pitch well despite an off game yesterday. He picked up 10 Ks last week along with a 1-1 record, a 3.65 ERA, and 1.70 WHIP. His K/9 ratio was 7.30 and his K/BB ratio was 2.0.
On the year he’s 1-3 with 29 Ks, a 3.89 ERA, and a 1.32 WHIP. He is owned in 47 percent of Yahoo!, 11.3 percent of ESPN, and 56 percent of CBS Sportsline leagues.
Ross Ohlendorf, Pittsburgh Pirates - Ross went 1-1 last week with 10 Ks, a 4.50 ERA, and a 0.83 WHIP. His K/9 ratio was 7.50 and his K/BB ratio was 10.0. On the year he is 4-3 with 22 Ks, a 3.77 ERA, and a 1.07 WHIP. He is owned in 15 percent of Yahoo!, 2.3 percent of ESPN, and 27 percent of CBS Sportsline leagues.
Josh Outman, Oakland A’s - Josh was 1-0 last week with 9 Ks, a 3.48 ERA, and a 1.35 WHIP. His K/9 ratio was 7.84 and his K/BB ratio was 1.8. On the year he’s 1-0 with 25 Ks, a 4.05 ERA, and a 1.39 WHIP.
