Note to WWE: Do Not Forget About CM Punk in the Corporation Angle

David LevinJun 8, 2018

With all that the WWE is putting into the Daniel Bryan/Corporation angle, the company cannot forget one of its greatest commodities, CM Punk.

Now that John Cena is out of action until at least the end of the year and Sheamus is on the mend, the company must look to Punk and other superstars to pick up the slack of losing three major faces in the space of a few weeks. How will the burden of carrying part of the WWE on his back change considering he did the same thing while holding the WWE Title for 434 days, wrestled The Undertaker at WrestleMania 29 and then took time off until Payback to rest and heal his wounds from a hellacious schedule?

Now, more than ever, Bryan and the WWE Universe need a healthy Punk to join the fight against Triple H, Randy Orton, The Shield and anyone else the company throws at them.

Punk is currently caught up in this mess of a feud with Paul Heyman. I call it a mess only because Punk and Heyman are great, and the verbal assault by both of them is the best I have seen since Ric Flair and Eric Bischoff going back and forth on WCW. But there is no real opponent for Punk.

Yes, it is that good!

Brock Lesnar was the ultimate test for Punk, even though he lost at SummerSlam. But to fall back to Curtis Axel is more if a joke in my opinion, or a way of saying the company really does not have anyone else to challenge the “Second City Saint.”

I only wish this kid was half as good as his father was.

Wade Barrett, Randy Orton, Alberto Del Rio and others on the roster, but no one to challenge Punk? Am I missing something here? Yes, the injuries to superstars changed a few things, and the scheduling and booking is a little suspect, but now that the company is solid top to bottom in terms of wrestlers, this is a great time to see if Punk and Bryan can come together at some point and face the evil demons. Then there is one more angle the WWE can use until Cena and Sheamus return.

If the WWE hasn’t thought of this already, there are free agent wrestlers out there or other former WWE superstars who have discussed a possible return to the ring. You don’t think a Batista or MVP or John Morrison or even Goldberg wouldn’t sell this? It would be like a “Face Invasion” of sorts. And if the company hasn’t thought of this one already (sounds like a broken record, I know), what if Shane McMahon makes his triumphant return to the company to challenge daddy for the WWE?

The angle is simple. Shane does not want to see the company handed over to Stephanie and her husband. Shane is the oldest child, he thinks he should get everything, and he sides with Bryan, Punk, etc.

The WWE can thank me later for writing their scripts.

Seriously though, the idea of leaving Punk out of a program like this (at least let’s hope not) would be detrimental to the company, Punk and the angle. I am not saying the WWE should let Punk take the spotlight and the program over, but his influence would be a great asset. Leaving him with his current spot with Axel is meaningless unless the company has another “Paul Heyman Guy” in place to continue the fight.

Right now, Bryan is in a good place challenging the hierarchy and proving to be the company’s top draw. Sooner or later, whether the WWE likes it or not, he will need Punk’s help.
