5 WWE Superstars Who Deserve to Hold Championship Gold

Everyone who wrestles for WWE should have the goal of holding a major championship at some point, but some Superstars deserve to hold gold more than others.

Being a champion in WWE might be looked at as arbitrary since the champions are essentially chosen by Vince McMahon, but to wrestlers, it is validation for their hard work.

All the wrestlers hope to be considered one of the company's top performers worthy of representing WWE by holding a championship. If they don't, then they shouldn't be wrestling.

Sure, someone told them before the match that they would be winning the title. It doesn't make the win any less special to the men and women in the ring.

This slideshow will look at some of the Superstars who are the most deserving of a title reign at this point in their career. This list is no particular order.

Wade Barrett

Sometimes, the booking of Wade Barrett is as big a mystery as who shot J.R. on Dallas.

OK, we know it was his sister-in-law, but you get the picture. Wade Barrett should be a promoter's dream, but he has been held back, while other Superstars with less to offer have been pushed past him.

Barrett has the perfect look for a pro wrestler. He is a tall, muscular guy who has the look of someone who has been in more than his fair share of scrapes. But he is more than just "the right look."

He can banter with other Superstars on the mic, and his ability in the ring has been well-documented since his NXT days.

He had a period where he seemed like he would break through to the main event, but it never happened, which is a shame because he has so much to offer.

2013 might not be Barrett's year, but hopefully 2014 sees the master of the Bull Hammer finally get that World title around his waist.

Antonio Cesaro

I can't remember the last time WWE has had someone as valuable as Antonio Cesaro and been this clueless as to what to do with him.

First, he was paired with Aksana. When that failed, so he was given the gimmick of an un-American U.S. champion. That didn't catch on, so they stuck him with The Real Americans.

Cesaro's accent may make it seem like the guy doesn't have mic skills, but he doesn't need them. His gimmick should revolve around the fact that he doesn't connect to American fans.

He is a foreign heel. Why should America like him?

Have him only speak European languages to upset the American fans while appealing to the International fans. And for the love of God, can someone put this guy in the ring with Daniel Bryan for a good singles match?

Cesaro is one of the best prospects in WWE, and nobody seems to recognize it. It boggles the mind, doesn't it? It's as if someone had told Phil Jackson to sit Ron Harper all season just because Michael Jordan was there.

Daniel Bryan

Everyone knows Daniel Bryan deserves to hold WWE gold, and he did for a few minutes last Sunday, but the fact that he is not currently a champion means he belongs on this list.

The angle with Bryan, Randy Orton and Triple H is going to help make Bryan a bigger star than he already is, and he will likely get the WWE title back at some point.

But you know if he was left off the list, there would have been a million "How could you forget Daniel Bryan, you idiot?" comments.

It's getting hard to find something new to say about why he deserves to be WWE champion because it has been preached by so many for so long.

The guy is creative in the ring and on the mic, and his appeal spans every demographic. WWE is lucky to have him.

Natalya

Sure, I could have found five male Superstars to fill this list, but Natalya belongs on this roll call.

She has been Divas champion before, but that was more than two years ago, and she has not done much since.

The new Divas reality show has thrust her back into the spotlight, and hopefully it will lead to her finally being recognized as worthy of the Divas title.

She is one of the most gifted wrestlers in the Divas division, if not the most gifted, and the fact that she has been booked so poorly in recent years is a sign of attitudes toward women in wrestling.

WWE should not only be booking Natalya in title matches—the whole division should be structured around her. Let all the other girls go out there and be models for the company, but let Natalya do what she does best...wrestle. Sometimes the only pop during a Divas match is when she applies the Sharpshooter on someone.

The right move would be to book Natalya in a long-term feud with AJ and let them show the WWE universe that a Divas match can be just as good as any Knockouts match.

Christian

He was so close at SummerSlam, but Christian is still looking for that last World title reign before he hangs up his boots for good, or so he says.

There is no telling how much longer Christian will be around the ring, but he is in better shape than he has been in years, and he could end up winning several more titles before he retires.

He was gone for so long due to an injury that just his presence seems to freshen things up a bit, and having him win a top title could make the title scene feel fresh again, too.

He has had one great match after another since returning to WWE, and he would continue to be a top-flight performer as the World champion. There is not a lot of downside here.

Are there more than five people in WWE who deserve to hold a title? Absolutely.

Were some of those people left off this list? Obviously.
