WWE SummerSlam 2013: Winners Who Will Carry Momentum into Night of Champions

Jun 8, 2018

After one of the best editions of SummerSlam of all time, certain winning WWE Superstars will carry their momentum into the Night of Champions 2013.

The following wrestlers were victorious Sunday. Those wins, coupled with the way Monday’s episode of Raw was handled, indicate these wrestlers will keep up their winning ways heading into the September pay-per-view.

Daniel Bryan and Randy Orton

The main event of SummerSlam featured John Cena getting pinned clean by Daniel Bryan and Bryan capturing the WWE Championship. But the glory was short-lived, as Triple H turned heel and helped Randy Orton cash in his Money in the Bank contract to steal the title.

Both men won the belt Sunday night, and both are carrying serious momentum into Night of Champions. While Bryan lost the championship, his stock is higher now than it would have been had he walked out of Los Angeles with the belt.

The WWE made it clear Monday that the people with power in the company are against Bryan. With every fan supporting Bryan as he looks to overcome the odds stacked against him by the McMahons, Triple H and Orton, this entire storyline is booked perfectly heading into September’s PPV.

The WWE Championship scene is amazing right now.

Alberto Del Rio

Alberto Del Rio defeated Christian to retain the World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam, and the WWE Universe should expect the same result against Rob Van Dam at Night of Champions.

While the stage has been set for RVD and his new manager Ricardo Rodriguez to steal the title away from the bland champion, the WWE will use the veteran to put over Del Rio as a serious star and a hero to Hispanic and Latino people.

Because of the mismatch between Rodriguez and Van Dam, this storyline doesn’t make much sense right now. But the idea of a star who gets the kind of reaction the ECW legend does helping Del Rio look like a bona fide top star is smart booking.

Expect another successful title defense against RVD.

Dolph Ziggler

Dolph Ziggler and teammate Kaitlyn beat Big E Langston and AJ Lee in a mixed tag match, but the hope is that the victory marks the end of his relationship with anyone in this match.

While getting beat down by The Shield on Raw was not great for his character, the lack of interaction with his former storyline girlfriend and her heavy is a great sign he is moving back up to the main event scene.

RVD looks to have the first shot at Del Rio and the world title at Night of Champions, but Ziggler could easily be slid into that spot as soon as Del Rio retains.

It would be perfect booking for Ziggler to once again gain a shot at Del Rio’s title and finally recapture the gold.
