Manchester United Transfer News: David Moyes Must Be Aggressive in Market
Manchester United haven't made a big move since last season ended, but manager David Moyes should be aggressive leading up to the September 2 deadline as he attempts to make his first move.
Moyes is confident that he will be able to make a move, according to Sky Sports:
"We are involved in several players we are looking at and that will continue. Will we get them before the deadline? I hope so, but we are working very hard to do so.
[...]
But what I do know is the group of players we have got are a great group of players - they won the Premier League last year.
"
He is optimistic about making his first big splash since taking over for Sir Alex Ferguson. He does, however, realize that he has a pretty good squad to work with.
The manager took over in the middle of the summer, so he hasn't had a ton of time to work out deals.
Sky Sports also reported on Monday that Everton rejected United's bid for Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines. Everton's official Twitter account released an official statement regarding the bids:
United shouldn't be discouraged by not getting these players. Fellaini would have fit perfectly with the Red Devils, but there are other options. Moyes is still looking for a replacement for Paul Scholes after the midfielder retired.
Miguel Delaney of ESPN FC reported that United have targeted Real Madrid's Luka Modric and Mesut Ozil. ESPN FC was also told that the Red Devils expect to make three signings before the deadline.
United fans would like to see moves be made in order to increase the club's chances of repeating. Winning the EPL title last season should be celebrated, but fans don't want other clubs to overtake the Red Devils if Moyes doesn't make a move.
The club biggest need is at midfield. Modric and Ozil fit the description, so there could be a possible match with one of the two players.
Moyes was unable to get Cesc Fabregas, so he continues to make attempts at finding help at midfield.
Wayne Rooney's future with the team is unclear, but he is still on the squad. He is just one of many stars on United. Robin van Persie, Shinji Kagawa and Michael Carrick are just a few of the quality players on the squad.
Having so many talented players is the reason the Red Devils won the championship last season. Their current squad is good enough to contend for another EPL title, but a move would make them even better.
Once Moyes makes his first move, the pressure will be off. He is still waiting to make his first move since taking over, and fans want to see who he is able to sign.
Moyes has two weeks to make a deal or two, so he needs to be aggressive. Addressing the midfield position is key, because signing a midfielder would give United a better shot at defending their title.
