Newcastle Transfer News: Fabricio Coloccini's Comments Show Commitment to Club

Fabricio Coloccini is sticking around with Newcastle United for at least another season, and his recent comments show that he is committed to the club.

The captain expressed why he chose to stick around in St. James' Park. Sky Sports has his explanation:

My relationship with Newcastle and with the fans was very important in helping me to make my decision.

I've supported San Lorenzo since I was small, but I feel something for Newcastle now.

Coloccini had asked Newcastle to sell him to San Lorenzo earlier this year, according to Kristan Heneage of ESPNFC.com. Nothing came of that situation, and he will remain with his current club.

He missed time last season with a back injury. His team struggled without him, so his return in the final games gave the team a needed boost.

It's a change in attitude since the beginning of the year when he wanted to leave. Whether or not his personal situation has changed, he is committed to the Toon this season.

What does this mean?

It means that the club got back a key piece of its roster. Newcastle were near the bottom of the EPL standings last season and could find themselves in a similar situation this campaign.

Newcastle are hoping to avoid relegation. Keeping Coloccini solidifies the defense, which was an issue when he was injured.

The club allowed 68 goals in league play last season. That was one of the highest totals in the league, and Coloccini's presence should change that stat this year.

The leader of the defense will be back and healthy this season. His improved attitude will allow him to bring the team together and rebound from a bad performance.
