Reason for Alberto Del Rio's Bruised Face at SummerSlam Revealed

Chris FeatherstoneJun 8, 2018

The match between Alberto Del Rio and Christian was a sound technical match, similar to their bout last week on SmackDown. Lately, ADR has been on a losing streak, even as World Heavyweight Champion. Two of those losses were to Christian, and it seemed as if he had Del Rio's number.

Although the match delivered, the bigger news was the noticeable shiners that ADR had.

Media outlets were flooded with reactions to Alberto Del Rio's black eyes and facial bruising. It came as a surprise, seeing as how he had just wrestled against Daniel Bryan at a house show Friday in Portland, Ore., and did not look that way.

2026's Most Pleasant Surprises 🤩

Remember that guy who got his recognition by marking out on Brock Lesnar's post-WrestleMania 28 return? He had some words to say:

"

I'm betting @VivaDelRio really hates WWEHD right now. @WWE #SummerSlam

— Brock Lesnar Guy (@BrockLesnarGuy) August 19, 2013"

Well, it has been discovered that the cause stemmed from a fight that occurred late Saturday night or early Sunday morning.

According to F4WOnline, via WrestlingInc., the fight also involved former Intercontinental Champion and current 3MB member Drew McIntyre. It has also been reported that both superstars were bruised as a result.

Most likely the WWE will not bother to shed light on the incident, but looking at Alberto Del Rio, it must have been one heck of a fight. With a background in mixed martial arts, it does not seem to be a mere scuffle, but instead an all-out brawl, because ADR would have no problem holding his own.

No further details have came from this incident, but this article will be updated as they stream in.

What was your reaction to Alberto Del Rio's appearance during his SummerSlam match against Christian? Sound off (civilly) below.

UPDATE: According to Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com (via WrestlingInc.), the fight happened Saturday night. Del Rio and McIntyre were at a bar, when someone made advances to the girl who accompanied McIntyre. This led Del Rio to step in, which caused him to get hit by a bottle and a brawl ensued.
