Chelsea Transfer News: Blues Won't Feel Pressured by Frank Lampard's Statement

Kyle NewportAug 19, 2013

The transfer window is nearing the deadline, and Chelsea won't feel pressured into making a big move after Frank Lampard talked about the club's possible transfer targets.

According to Sky News (h/t Jack de Menezes of The Independent), Lampard believes that Jose Mourinho usually gets who he wants and could continue that trend before the deadline:

"

I think Chelsea have made their interest known. That's a decision for them and Wayne to come to...We're going into the season strong, but if the manager wants to add another player we all hope he gets his man.

Whether or not the Blues get Wayne Rooney, Lampard's comments aren't going to influence the manager.

A decision like that will be made by the clubs regardless of what the players say.

Chelsea are already a deep team and should challenge for the English Premier League title. Manchester United is hoping to defend their title, but the Blues will certainly have a shot at winning it all.

Rooney would certainly improve the squad. He scored 22 goals and recorded 14 assists last season, and he would add to the team's depth at striker.

Fernando Torres, John Terry and Ashley Cole are just a few of the big names on the squad. Adding Rooney to the mix would give the Blues a boost on offense. The 27-year-old could be the piece that puts the Blues over the top.

Taking one of United's players would help Chelsea's chances at achieving their ultimate goal. They finished behind the Red Devils and Manchester City last season, so they are looking to make a move to jump those teams.

Mourinho is looking for anyone who can make a difference. If he can't get Rooney, he will turn his attention to other players who would help the club.

Lampard's comments can only be viewed a positive. He is supportive of his manager trying to improve the squad, so it shows that the players won't have an issue with bringing in a star player. It would be crazy not to want a player of Rooney's caliber, and the players know that it could put them over the top.

The Blues were going to make a run at Rooney with or without Lampard speaking up. ESPN reported that Chelsea are putting together one final bid for the star, so Lampard could get his wish if the offer is good enough for United.

Chelsea are going to compete for the top spot in the EPL even if they don't make a move. Comments by a player aren't going to put pressure on Mourinho to make a move, but keep an eye on the Blues as the transfer window deadline approaches.
