UFC Fight Night 26 Results: Reaction for Every Fight

    Chael Sonnen picked up a cruical win at UFC Fight Night 26 over Shogun Rua. A stunning guillotine submission win moves him up the ranks, and puts him back in the win column.

    In the co-main event, Travis Browne weathered an early storm to dispatch Alistair Overeem by KO.

Shogun Rua vs. Chael Sonnen

    After a brief back-and-forth battle Sonnen takes top position. Sonnen grabs a hold of his neck, drops down with a guillotine and finishes!

    Wow! Big win for Sonnen. Shogun had no answer for the takedown, and Sonnen shocks everyone with a submission finish against a very good submission stylist. Sonnen called out Wanderlei Silva after the fight, and that very well could be next.

Alistair Overeem vs. Travis Browne

    Round 1

    Overeem pressures immediately. They separate. Overeem lands a good body shot. Browne tries a flying knee, and he ends up with Overeem on him. Browne fights his way to his feet as Overeem unleashes punches galore. Browne covering up. Browne fires back. Browne has slowed following the onslaught of offense by Overeem. Overeem briefly takes Browne down. Browne throwing high kicks, but they are failing to reach Overeem. Good punches in the clinch by Overeem. Overeem moves Browne back to the fence. Browne is finding more success later in this round. Front kick! Overeem is out!

    Browne defeats Overeem by KO at 4:08 of the first round

    Browne weathered an early storm, and that seemed to sap Overeem's speed. Browne threw high kick after high kick, and then switched to a front kick. It landed. Overeem fell.

Urijah Faber vs. Iuri Alcantara

    Alcantara throws Faber. Mounts. Transitions to an arm, but Faber is defending. Faber is going after a leg. Alcantara has his back again. Alcantara is controlling Faber, landing short shots. Faber's defense is excellent. Faber gets out and slams Alcantara down. Faber firing off shots from the top now. Alcantara gets back to full guard. Furious pace.

    Alcantara goes for a Kimura, but Faber takes top position. Faber lands a big knee to the midsection. Strong top position by the former WEC Featherweight Champion. Ground and pound from Faber is preventing Alcantara from being offensive from bottom. Big elbows from Faber. Alcantara gets to his feet, and as he tries to take Faber down the former champion gets on top.

    Slower start to the third round. Faber gets a hold on Alcantara and takes him down. Two minutes to go. Faber giving Alcantara no room to work from bottom. Faber trying to find space to land ground and pound. Alcantara goes for a submission, but Faber goes with him and defends. Excellent ground defense from Faber.

    After a blistering star for Alcantara, it was all Faber. Complete control on the mat. He is the No. 3-ranked bantamweight for a reason. It also goes to show just how good Dominick Cruz and Renan Barao are.

Matt Brown vs. Mike Pyle

    Good grief. There are almost no words for what Matt Brown is doing.

Uriah Hall vs. John Howard

    Hall immediately shoots a takedown. Hall is being patient on the mat. Hall backs away. Low leg kick from Howard. Quick jabs from Hall, and a missed wheel kick. Howard lands a left hook. Hall searching for a takedown. Howard lands an elbow on the exit. Howard lands the leg kick again. Howard stuffs a takedown. Howard now going for a takedown. Hall defends against the fence. Hall lands a knee. They separate.

    Howard lands the same strong low leg kick. Hall goes for a takedown, but Howard tries to lock up a guillotine. Howard presses Hall against the fence. Yamasaki separates them. Howard searching for the left hook, but he hits nothing with it. Hall went for a Kimura, but in the scramble he takes Howard's back. Howard lands the leg kick-left hook combination. Howard takes Hall down.

Joe Lauzon vs. Michael Johnson

    A feeling out process to start the fight. Johnson throws a combination that is blocked. Good left to the body from Johnson. Lauzon starts to chase Johnson with strikes. Johnson drops Lauzon with a left. Johnson lets him back up. Johnson is turning it up. Lauzon has little output thus far. Phenomenal combination from Johnson. Another straight left buckles Lauzon.

    Lauzon presses Johnson against the fence. The first bit of solid offense from Lauzon. Johnson gets off the fence. Lauzon lands a few strikes, but Johnson's uppercuts stifle Lauzon. Johnson puts Lauzon against the fence, but Lauzon lands a good knee. Johnson comes forward with another solid combination. Johnson takes Lauzon down.

Brad Pickett vs. Michael McDonald

    McDonald opens with a low leg kick. Big shots by McDonald. They are wild! McDonald hurts Pickett! Pickett holding on for dear life. Pickett eating big shots! He survives! WOW! McDonald takes him down, but Pickett throws him off quickly. McDonald lands a right. Right hand knocks Pickett down again. Pickett maintains guard. McDonald backs away and lets Pickett up. Good knee from McDonald. Combination from McDonald. He lands again before the bell.

    What a performance from McDonald! Electric. He returns from his title defeat better than ever. The youngster is for real, and he will be contending for the title again soon.

Conor McGregor vs. Max Holloway

    McGregor opening up with leg kicks. Good straight left from McGregor. The much-hyped Irishman is mixing things up well. Holloway throwing more leg kicks. Pressure being applied by McGregor. McGregor being creative with his kicks. Holloway responds with a right hand. A lot of strikes thrown, but not many connect.

    McGregor keeping up the pace. Holloway is simply not responding to the attacks. He is thinking about what is coming next. Good uppercut from McGregor. Holloway lands a left hand over the top. Straight left from McGregor. McGregor catches a leg kick and puts Holloway down. Holloway gets a closed guard. McGregor gets a chance to posture up, and he eventually passes. McGregor closes the second round out in side control.

Holloway is in trouble with McGregor landing big shots from mount. Holloway gets out and up. Holloway's head kick knocks McGregor off balance. Takedown from McGregor ices the fight.

    Complete domination from McGregor, but he failed to really showcase anything that would suggest he is ready for the elite of the division. At only 25-years-old he has plenty of time to develop and contend.

Mike Brown vs. Steven Siler

    Siler wanting to keep Brown outside. Brown comes in and gets clips. Siler pounces. Brown is out.

    A fantastic performance and win for Siler. A big shot on the mat shut off the lights on Brown.

Diego Brandao vs. Daniel Pineda

    Pineda goes right after Brandao. Brandao clips Pineda. Brandao hits him hard again! Flying knee from Brandao. Pineda is still swinging away! Brandao is patient with his strikes. Nice low leg kick from Pineda. Brandao lands again, but that one had a little less on it. Pineda is getting hit a lot in this round, but he is still in the fight. Brandao takes Pineda down. Knee to the body from Brandao. They stand. Good first round for the former TUF winner.

    A flurry to open the second, but nothing lands cleanly from either fighter. Brandao shoots in and takes Pineda down. Pineda throws up his legs for a triangle, but Brandao pulls out. They are back to the feet. Body shot from Brandao. Brandao with a nice takedown. Pineda sweeps Brandao. Pineda is being very active from the top, but his ground and pound isn't getting through. Now Pineda starts to land more with punches. Brandao gets a leg, but Pineda rolls out of danger. Pineda stays on top.

    Brandao takes Pineda to the mat early. Brandao lands a good hammerfist. They get back to their feet. Brandao takes Pineda back to the floor. Pineda gives up his back in order to stand. Brandao lands a right. Pineda comes forward, and Brandao takes him down. Half the round remains. Pineda gives up his back in order to stand, and he lands a couple solid elbows from the position. Brandao is tired. Brandao takes Pineda again. Pineda's inability to stop the sluggish takedowns is why he will lose this fight. Yamasaki stands them up. Brandao lands a hard left. Pineda lands a right and a left as he closes the distance for a takedown attempt. Brandao defends. Hard right from Pineda as the fight ends.

    A fun fight early on, but then both fighters gassed. Pineda should have been able to stop the tired takedowns, but he had no answer. Brandao has a lot of potential if he can work on his cardio. Pineda was game.

Manny Gamburyan vs. Cole Miller

    A feeling out process early on. Miller working his jab. Gamburyan is trying to get inside the range of Miller. The American Top Team featherweight is putting more offense in than Gamburyan thus far. Gamburyan shoots in, but Miller stays on his feet briefly. Gamburyan completes the takedown. Gamburyan lands a solid elbow on the ground. Another one lands. Miller gets to his feet. Gamburyan lands a knee to the face toward the end of the round. Miller lands elbows to the side of the head. Close round.

    There is a bit of confusion between rounds. Gamburyan holds the back of his head indicating an illegal strike, but nothing was called. The doctor checks out Gamburyan. He's cleared to continue.

    Strong leg kick from Gamburyan. Miller mixes up his strikes, but they are blocked. Gamburyan goes for a takedown when Miller throws a knee. Gamburyan tries to suck him away from the cage. Miller gets his back in a transition, but Gamburyan gets him off very quickly. Gamburyan takes Miller down. Gamburyan is bleeding from the head. Miller stands. Miller lands another elbow. Miller lands more elbows, but Gamburyan puts him on his butt. Miller pushes him away. Another close round.

Miller gets dumped to the mat again.

    Close fight all the way around. It very well could have went to Miller, but Gamburyan's takedowns sealed the fight in all three rounds. A solid fight, and a solid win.

Cody Donovan vs. Ovince St. Preux

    Donovan comes forward with a flurry, but it is largely ineffective. Donovan preses St. Preux against the fence. They separate. Donovan puts St. Preux's back against the fence again. Donovan working hard for the takedown, and he gets rolled over by OSP. Big ground and pound, and this fight is over!

    St. Preux defeats Donovan by TKO at 2:07 of the first round

    St. Preux has a lot of raw talent and power, and it got him through this fight. He still needs seasoning, but these fights will help him grow as a fighter. Good ground and pound from the Strikeforce veteran.

Ramsey Nijem vs. James Vick

    Round 1

    Nijem looks for a takedown right away, but it was easily defended by Vick. Nijem uses the single to press him against the fence, and now he completes the takedown. Vick stands. Vick goes for a guillotine, and he gets it!

    Easily and painless way to start the night. Vick slipped his arm under the chin, and it was over. Nice debut for Vick.
